let me just say, i didnt get any of LOTRC custom figures...no custom furies my way BAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!

I don't know...what could we do to make that happen?  We could ask that everyone stick to a structure like I have set up w/ the site, but it's pretty much an honor system...You can't make people kick in a portion of their sales...even though they totally should.

Meh...logistically, it's a hornet's nest.

O.K he made a donation but, that was a long time ago. You don't pay a tv network for an advert to be shown and expect it to be shown for ever.

That rant is the end of the line i'm afraid.

I'll take criticism but, i won't take abuse.
yeah mate i agree!its just i was sitting here reading through the posts and i could see it coming
a percentage amount SHOULD be paid if an item is sold by means of the site!end of story.
people have to pay to list on EBAY after all.

i love it when grow ass men act like little babies!
a civil discussion turns into i hate you all, i'm taking my ball and going home!
the interweb rules!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

people giving back to the site is cool, but what percentage?  what dolalr amount?
just as an example but if LOTRC sells one of his custom figures and it sells for $500, how much "tribute" should he have to pay?, compared to someone who sold something for $50?

IMO, it should be $1 per sale or 1% of the sale, maybe a bit more.
it'll be a lot easier for the sellers to swallow as they won't feel like they're getting totally hosed on their transaction as opposed to something like $5 or 5%.

Yeah, the problem is...how do you enforce that?
I'm already kicking in a lot more than 1%.  More like 5% on shirts and close to 4% on vests.  But, my site allows me to track where the sales are coming from.  Someone selling something on eBay can't guarantee that the sale came in from this site.  In fact, I can tell you that less than 1/2 of my vest sales come in from links on this site.  (Still, pretty dang large amount)

I don't know if you can charge someone to tell other fans on this site about something for sale w/out proof that the sale came in from this site...

AND...what do you do when someone merely points out to the rest of the gang something that is on sale.  Like, when I found a link on here to the Warriors poster books...the guy who pointed it out wasn't the one doing the selling.

I don't think there is an elegant solution to this.  On top of all this, it's all really an 'honor' system anyway...which sometimes seems to be in short supply.  :(

i hear ya.
the key word here is "donation"
the site can't forceably make someone give a donation, they might as well charge a fee to join.
the honor system is really the only way but like you said, its in short supply.

Maybe people should pay me to advertise the stuff, regardless of whether they sell any of their items or not (like a listing fee), else have a scheme like Tim has which tracks orders (the preferred method).

This might cut out some of the crap stuff people have sold in the past, as the only people who will pay me, are those with decent items.

Just a thought...

actually that would be the easiest solution but it won't solve anything.

i think if people want to sell here, they should contact WC and ask him to put a link up on the homepage or something of that nature.  he can charge them a small fee for posting the link on the homepage(or wherever).  then we as members can point people in the right direction whether its to alex's stuff, charlloots stuff, etc and let them know by purchasing through these "preferred vendors" on the homepage, that they themselves will be supporting the site.  of course this should be strictly for businesses and not some random crap someones trying to get rid of.

how does that sound?

Devil's Advocate here-

Was the old way not working?  As long as no-one is obviously running a scam, what was the problem?

We are 110% happy with the way Alex helps the site so all is cool in that respect. No problem in the past just things change.

We just don't want anyone to make money off the forum without the forum gaining. We try to keep it advert free. The site is non profit making for Gareth so why should anyone else make money from it without paying an advertising fee or commision.

Anyway the Chief has said what he thinks so we should all respect what he says. 8)

Amen brotha, oh and Jamie I forgot to mention that I have been keeping an eye on The Warriors 8 track soundtrack, since that's one of the only things that you are missing from your collection.  If I ever come across one I will snatch it for you! ;) 8) :D

Ok I understand this site cost money to operate, yet u guys are drilling people for selling stuff and not cutting the site in?  It seems a bit hypocritical when u have a bazaar for selling things and then blame a guy for not cutting the site in.  Then your saying he's making money off the site yet u want money from his profits.  I don't sell anything here, but I do like to see the stuff people are selling cuz I like to collect them.  I feel it is a shame to cut them out because they are making a profit from fans.  But whatever, its your site and things seemed ok to me.
