Riff Patrols theory
Watching this movie the other day, I came up with a theory I haven't seen presented before (nor could I find it here by searching for it). If it has been addressed before (using different wording) I apologize for not posting it there.
A Riff patrol must have been "shadowing" the Warriors on their way to Coney. How else would they have known that the Warriors got past the Orphans, who not only weren't on the Riff network, but didn't even know about the conclave (or that the Warriors were "wanted"), and therefore could not have tipped off the DJ or the Gramercy Riffs.
Someone had to have been following them and tipping off the Riffs to what happened - and I don't think it was Luther. I believe his only contact with the Riffs was at the conclave and at Coney.
Thoughts on this?

that's a good theory, but if it was a Riffs patrol, wouldn't they have wasted the Warriors?

Re: Riff Patrols theory
when you say it like that,it does make a lot of sence.im surprised noone's thought of that before.
maybe the one/ones following the Warriors had something to do with who Luther talks to on the phone?

I don't think this makes sense. Like mentioned before the riffs would simply have wasted the warriors themselves, they didn't want anyone else to do it. Masai wanted them alive if possible if not, wasted. The other gangs knew about the warriors becasuse of the dj, but still, after Cyrus was killed the truce was off.

This is a very valid theory actually, but I think there could be one kink in it. Throughout the movie the Warriors are chased on several occasions, by the Turnbulls, the Furies and the cops. So how would the person(s) tailing them a) Manage to keep up? and b) Manage to go unnoticed? And also when they get split up at 96th Street, how would the tailer know which group to follow and how would he not get noticed by the police? It could be true though, good theory

Re: Riff Patrols theory
This is an excelent theory, because it does make a lot of sense. If you notice on one of the deleted scenes after one of Masai's men tell him about the furies not handling the job, Masai does ask "well what about our patrols" which means I am sure he did have a view men scouting different borrows. Being that maybe there might have been only 1 or 2 scouts who witnessed this, they new that they couldn't handle the warriors themselves. So it makes complete sense, out of respect and convinence of Masai and his soldiers he let the other gangs do the dirty work, and only put out a few scouts here or there to respect other gangs territorys. So it does fit. Also being that the warriors only had a view members, and could hide in the shadows, it takes a small amount of the Riffs to fit in the shadows as well, not a whole army. Great point.

The whole movie has a bunch of gaps and it makes you wonder about certain things. This is an interesting point.

Re: Riff Patrols theory
The riffs must have relied on other poeple on their network, reporting back. They had patrols looking for the warriors, but i dont think they were anywhere near them. When Masai asks about "our patrols" and the riffs says nothing, i always took that as meaning they dont have any information, rather than they havnt caught any warriors.
The only time we get to see the riffs van, is when the witness comes forward.

Interesting-yes,but i dont think so.I dont think the orphans knew about the meeting because they were low class and never left there neighborhood.because they never left there probably wasnt much info coming in either.I think how the riffs found out is simple, these are street people and im sure after the warriors blew up the car it drew some outside attention and somebody dropped a dime.Just my opinion

yes i agree there, but i also agree with the fact that the riffs woudnt have waned to leave their turf or go far away because of the cops maybe the patrols didnt go that far although they knew where they were, and just to be off topic (sorry) my rank on this site is turnbull AC is that good ? lolcyruszx7 wrote: Interesting-yes,but i dont think so.I dont think the orphans knew about the meeting because they were low class and never left there neighborhood.because they never left there probably wasnt much info coming in either.I think how the riffs found out is simple, these are street people and im sure after the warriors blew up the car it drew some outside attention and somebody dropped a dime.Just my opinion![]()

You're not a Turnbull any more! lol Ranks only mean how many posts you have. I was a Turnbull too you know. After you get 250+ posts you become a Warrior, and after you get 1000+ posts you get a special Warriors vest next to your name. You're a Jones Street Boy now, because you posted you 120th post. After every ten or so you change a rank up. That way it's way more exciting when you finally hit the Warrior rank!stevo2k6 wrote:yes i agree there, but i also agree with the fact that the riffs woudnt have waned to leave their turf or go far away because of the cops maybe the patrols didnt go that far although they knew where they were, and just to be off topic (sorry) my rank on this site is turnbull AC is that good ? lolcyruszx7 wrote: Interesting-yes,but i dont think so.I dont think the orphans knew about the meeting because they were low class and never left there neighborhood.because they never left there probably wasnt much info coming in either.I think how the riffs found out is simple, these are street people and im sure after the warriors blew up the car it drew some outside attention and somebody dropped a dime.Just my opinion![]()

Re: Riff Patrols theory
I always wondered who was watching the Warriors on their journey back to Coney... I never assumed it was the Riffs 'shadowing' them, but a whole mixture of people from around the city. Maybe the odd straggler or scout from some random gang would spot them or even the odd civilian here and there who could have heard the radio messages and wanted to help out. Like you say, there are many theories.
You're initial post got me thinking about the Orphans though... 30 members (full strength) and not one of them had heard about the radio station that reports the gangs of the city's activity?!
Real lame!

Hold your tongue...
Re: Riff Patrols theory
