Youth Worker
I can understand them having a youth worker, but I think Fox was lying when he made the comment about them being mentioned all the time. Swan and Fox were just trying to butter them up to get through the hood in peace. It would've worked had Mercy not added her two cents.....lol!
Are you just gonna let any army walk in any time they feel like it? Pretty soon every gang is just gonna boogie right in, soldier right through.

Back then 50s 60s early 70s--I don't think gang leadership was based too much on actual age, I think it had to be earned--either through fighting your way to the top, or such a show of leadership ability that it couldn't be ignored.
Lots of times the oldest were NOT the wisest.

every gang has a social worker assigned to them. if they're big enough. it starts with a gang file, with the police, and welfare, and social services. and then the social worker visits from time to time, tries to keep peace, tries to pick-up on any info they can, crimes, what-not. encourages you to get out of the gang's, and so forth. we had one when i was a teenager in the early 80's on the north west-side of chi. his name was ray-ray. he walked with a limp, (somebody shot him through the knee.) and had a real raspy, gargled with broken glass kinda voice. (seperate incident, shot through the neck! all the way through to, scars on both sided of his neck! he worked for welfare/social services. he arranged through the city, a trip of some of the jail's and prison's in illinois, for some of us hardhead's!! (kind of a scared straight, type of thing.) lol he took us to menard, the notorious cook county jail, (which i ended up doin 6 month's in, about a year later. when i was seventeen.) and the big one, joliet state prison! it worked for some of us, unfortunately for some others, it didn't.

Yeah, they might have had a youth worker, but the Orphans probably weren't mentioned...If the Warriors did have one, Vermin probably would have always been complaining about it back at Coney, like "Oh man, that youth worker's comin again today, aint they? We're gonna get busted, man, we're gonna get busted!" The youth worker might have been there mostly for the younger members, maybe to encourage them to get out of the gang while they still could...
Great post, soldierheavymuscle, I really enjoyed reading it!

Re: Youth Worker
I agree that is ridiculous and I think that was added about the youth worker to comply with Sol Yurick's original novel because he worked as a youth worker and studied gangs. I think it should have been left out, but the scene where they are trying to find the Conclave should have been left in.

Sorry about changing the subject.snowball fury wrote: Cleon is definatly younger than Cowboy and Fox. Cleon might be the second youngest to Rembrandt.
Actually, Cochise (Dave) was younger than Cleon and Rembrandt, who were born in '57. Dave was born in '59.

Re: Youth Worker
Well , after ready Soldier Heavy Muscle's post on his own personal experience with the subject and after watching "80 Blocks from Tiffany's" I understand the youth worker deal, but I agree with SD that it was silly in the movie. What was even sillier though was that the Orphans went for it. Have any of you watched that documentary "80 Blocks from Tiffany's"? It was made in the 70's about New York City gangs and I could see the Warriors fitting into a culture like that...with the Savage Nomads...
