other cult films from that era...

Post by nypdgangunit »

I apologise if this has been said before, but I searched and couldn't find anything...

Its only occured to me recently that all my fave films seem to be cult classics from around The Warriors era. eg Dawn of the Dead, Assault on Precinct 13, Rollerball, Mad Max and of course The Warriors.
Can anyone suggest any other cult films from that era for me to watch?
Cheers

I don't know if it  is a cult film but The Wanderers is a great movie to watch and is kind of like The Warriors with gangs but just a different layout.

Harold and Maude...this is my favorite because its also a comedy however I was a bit shocked when I heard it was a cult classic...these others aren't my favorites but I'm only throwing them out there since they're also cult classics
Deliverance
Texas Chainsaw massacre (1974)

I personally think Assault On Precint 13 is one of the most overrated films EVER. Great premise, solid acting and characters, but the substance inbetween...christ. The actual "assaults" are so poorly excecuted though.

The Thing, now THERE is a good cult movie from Carpenter in his 70's era! GREAT effects, GREAT charcters/acting, GREAT action/gore. A true benchmark in sci-fi horror.
SUPER HAPPY PINEAPPLE MAN!

I think Carpenters early 80s stuff is his best work, The Thing and Escape from New York are two of my favourite films.

Other cult films from the era - Quadrophenia, Mad Max/Mad Max 2, I would also maybe include Death Race 2000 and Purple Rain even though theyre a little off the time scale. Maybe Superfly.
