Sorry to bring this post back up, but I had to share this:

When I first heard In The City (before seeing The Warriors) I was watching South Park, the episode where that chinese guy is trying to build the wall. He owns a chinese restaurant, and always says "Buy my city chicken!" but because of his funny accent he goes "Buy my shitty chicken!"

Now, everytime I hear In The City, I can't help but think about that chinese guy singing "In the shitty..."

I can't even take the song seriously...

This song is great. Once I get it into my head, it wont come out. It also reminds me of were I live, one half of the town is nice and the other half is the slums or whatever you want to call it. Once you go over to that side of town, its like a whole different world. The few times Ive been over there, I would think of this song, for the kids that dont want to be in the middle of some of the gangs that are in that part of town.

So this song has a special place in my heart.

I actually heard Joe Walsh sing " In the City " on the last Eagles tour last year.It didn't sound the same as the original album cut of 1979 but it sounded good.

It's a pretty simplistic song on guitar.

Axl would do an amazing job at this song! his diverse vocal styles and" wooooo wooo woooos" would go quite well, i think. but i really liked his cover of "look at your game girl".  too bad he's still in his own little axl rose universe....
haha, he's out there more often now. But i doubt he ever would though. The way Axl has been these days, he'd probably get pissed off and leave the studie

But back in the day, (UYI days) it would have sounded amazing. I think Axl should have done a cover of this

I saw the Eagles in November of 2005 and Joe Walsh performed the song about 3/4 through the show.  As soon as he played the opening riff I knew what it was. I took out my cell phone and called home so the the answering machine would record about a minute of the song. I could have left after it ended and gone home happy. I may forget the details about the concert, but I will never forget the performance of that song.

Whenever you here these lyrics, you always seem to have a sense of hope in a world that is decaying, and people will step all over you.  In reality, we deal with our own personal demons, and tragedies.  Whether you have a bad drug addiction, or you feel that their is no reason to live in this discusting world, when these lyrics  play you seem to catch a second wind of hope, and enlightenment.  You than realize that this is my discussting town, and I will make the best of it, in a world that seems to reject me.  So when your on a bus looking out the window, or sitting on top of your roof in a nasty city, all you do is look up at the sky, listen to "in the city" in your head, and have a sense of peace and comfort, in your miserable surroundings. Than you will be in a meditated state of your own salvation.  Its not easy, but I think thats what this soung, and ending mean. Thats why I love it, its all about hope.
