The Radio
I was sure this would have been discussed before, but I couldnt fins anything when I searched. Would it not be illegal for the DJ to be telling the whole city about the gangs. And even the cops could tune in and find out what the gangs are up to and where they could be held up, etc. Your thoughts?

Re: The Radio
It was most likely pirate radio, plus she wasnt saying anything illegal.
She did mention Gang names, but it could always classify as "news"

Re: The Radio
Yeah, she was very clever how she phrased her updates. Gangs are street people or boppers. Baseball furies dropped the ball, etc.

Re: The Radio
yea I think maybe it is something like a CB radio with a frequency the cops don't know about. that possibly could be the same thing MM07 was talking about but I don't know anything about pirate radio stations

Re: The Radio
I really think it was a real radio station. Now this is what I wonder, Did the DJ work for the Boppers in Harlem, and is she really talking to them the whole time. Or is she just talking about all the gangs. But she does speak in Code so the cops don't catch on. Besides Some of the cops were in with the RIffs. SO maybe they were listing to the Radio to.
Re: The Radio
"boppers" is a general term for the gang members (I don't think she ever directly refers to the Boppers themselves) but I don't think the cops are working with Riffs, especially since the Riff are talking about taking over the city and taking out the cops.PadLock wrote: I really think it was a real radio station. Although Kujo, in the deleted scene, it shows the Masais right hand man (apparently) talking to the cops.

Re: The Radio
Well it's like college radio, only at a certain time and to people who know it exists!

Re: The Radio
Yeah , good call Lions i was thinking the same thing . I really don't think pirate radio was going on too much in nyc during the 70s . Plus the studio looked pretty pro.LIONS ON THE RED CARPET wrote: Well it's like college radio, only at a certain time and to people who know it exists!
Re: The Radio
I like this topic, but to go off the subject for a second. I always believed that when the Riffs made the DJ inform the gangs on everything, I just assumed that it was for that night only. Being that gangs had their own turfs and kept from one another, there was nothing to report.I never found it realistic, when people assume that th DJ always reported things for the gangs. Its not like it was some sort of sports event, so that way I think it was for just that night. Being that the Riffs became so powerful, they barely had anymore threats. So for all you know The Warriors became their first threat in years, and than they used the radio. What do you people think? Because I realized that some people have mixed ideas about this.

Re: The Radio
Yeah you have a point there killerMime. The Dj used slang words, or phrases that gangs could understand, or another possibility like a llot of you say, it was proboably a cb radio where the cops coudnt listen to it. Those two are my possibilitiesKillerMime wrote: Yeah, she was very clever how she phrased her updates. Gangs are street people or boppers. Baseball furies dropped the ball, etc.
