The Omen (Remake)

Let me tell you, between this and the Hills Have Eyes remake, I'm almost starting to believe that a good remake can be done. Tony Scott should be strapped to a chair and forced to watch these two movies over and over before he even attempts to remake the Warriors.

This movie is about as faithfull to the original, and to the book on which the original was based, as you can come. Many shot angles and much of the script is identical. All the iconic scenes (the Nanny's suicide, the zoo, the priest's impalement, Damien sending his mother off the balcony) are there and though they have been changed slightly and updated (for example, Damien is riding one of those razor scooters instead of a tricycle when he bumps into his mother and sends her over the balcony), they are all done very well.

The addition of some dream sequences, nightmares really, by Damiens parents after they slowly start to realize what he is, is just about the only major addition. Also, the signs of approaching Armageddon have been updated to reflect the world of today (9/11, the Tsunami, the war in Iraq, the space shuttle exploding).

I thought Liev Schreiber & Julia Stiles (though a lot younger than Gregory Peck & Lee Remick in the original) do a good job as the Thorns, Damien's adoptive parents. I also liked Mia Farrow's portrayal of Mrs. Baylock, the demonic Nanny sent by the devil to look out for Damien.

If you liked the original, there is no reason that you won't like this one. If you never saw the original, you should see this.

even though i haven't saw the Omen remake.i've read the spoiler and got to say that i wasn't so sure i wanted to see the remake but now want to check it out.just for curious reasons.

I don't know, the remake looks alright. I haven't seen it. I saw the original years ago. What gets to me and I find it funny, its that the film industry is running out of ideas so bad that we are getting remakes, well what is going to happen when the have done all the remakes? more remakes? Maybe the next one will be............... "The  men: Remix"

I have to say if i went to watch this i would probably watch a whole 4 minutes before i accidently fall asleep and just happen to cover my ears... i aint scared, i just don't like...errrm films with the word O in them 8-[

yeah i watched the exsorsist when i was about 6 and i couldent sleep for ages but now i cant get enough of horror films!!!!!
