Is the special edition DVD official or just a rumor?

I can't find anything about it online (although maybe I'm not looking in the right places), but from some of the comments on this site it seems like its a done deal. Does anybody have any information on this and/or links?

personally, I don't see it. the remake is taking everyone's attention, and the fact that they released the original on dvd to correspond with the 25th anniversary, tells me that there won't be any special edition, nor will there be any OLD original interview stuff anywhere on the remake when it is released.

Course, IF the remake is really big, OR they need an addition something to sell the video--maybe they would go back to original cast for special interviews, but I don't really see that at all.

The DVD was released (in the US anyway) in Janurary 2001. 22 years not 25. Even though I am against the remake, my hope is that it sheds enough light on the original that they DO make a special edition DVD.

don't worry there will be one! there always is when a movie is remade. to try and capitolize on anything with the name, at the time. and how many rereleased dvd's have we seen of dvd's that were already out, to coincide with other things, anniverseries, remakes, etc. or for if nothing else just more revenue on an already marketed product. which i have to admit feels like a scam to me most of the time, especially if the movie sucked to begin with. i will be more than happy however to plunk down the paper this time for a rerelease!!!!

Another sign that a movie may POSSIBLY be going the SE route is if you see the price of it go way down, because then the studio may have told the retailers to try to get rid of all of them so they can push the SE when it finally gets out.

Also can't remember who but, a person who attended a reunion in the last 3 mothes in California said that Walter Hill had said a S.E was being made!

It would be really nice to see this. Every time it's on TV I watch just for the added scenes. The scene just before the fight the Punks in the bathroom was really key where Swan asks about Ajax, then laments and says he should have tried to make him come with them. I hope it sees the light of day.

BTW, the same mag did a piece on the Outsiders just before that special edition fo that DVD was announced with nearly 30 minutes of footage restored. Sadly, for whatever reason, good ol' Warner Brothers shelved the DVD indefinitely. Guess we'll wait for the 25th anniversary there.

I can totallt believe the interview and a possible SE are connected. The studio could have pushed for some publicity to get the movie directly in the public eye again. There will probably be more stories on it in the near future I bet. And man oh man let's hope that quote is true! Actually I really do believe a SE will happen - it's just a matter of, when ?!
