TV shows made into movies
Now, I really don't want to piss anyone off with this post, but is this the new trend in Hollywood??? The remake trend was bad enough but now we have the "let's remake these movies and tv shows with an all black cast " trend. Look at what's in store:I won't be seeing the Munsters or the Honeymooners as I feel it is wrong to switch races of classic characters and I will also boycott the A-Team if the same thing happens there.
The Honeymooners - Cedric The Entertainer in Jackie Gleason's role
The Munsters - Cedric The Entertainer in Fred Gwynn's role
Back to School - Cedric The Entertainer in Rodney Dangerfield's role
(Cedric has now achieved the hat trick in desecrating the memory of 3 classic comic actors. The spinning in graves could cause tremors

Kojak - Ving Rhames in Telly Savalas' Role
Guess Who - pulled the old switcheroo with the white fiance (Ashton Kutcher) meeting the black parents (Bernie Mac) taking the place of the black fiance (Sidney Poitier) meeting the white parents (Spencer Tracy,Katherine Hepburn). Yeah that'll work

The only one I will see or have any hope for at all is the :
Kojak--Ving Rhames---I think Ving could pull off anything--and he has a mean feel to his work that is just as intimidating as Telly Savalas ever was.
I loved TS in Kojak and alot of his stuff--Alcatraz, Kelly's Heroes, Dirty Dozen(he was a creepo in this though- YEW)- He did a great job in everything he was in.
I am also thinking that this is not going to be just a remake movie- I think this will be a weekly series. I hope they pull this one off. That being said:
Where is the creativity, and originality that should be coming up with NEW projects-instead of trying to milk a cash cow, just trying to use an old success-SIGH--this is NOT progress or improvement in my opinion.

Why aren't any black tv shows being turned into white movies. I'll tell you why. If that happened Mr. Al Sharpten would be on the news complaining that white people are racist even though movies like white chicks can be made about whites. If balck chicks was made Sharpten would have been suing someone. THERE SHOULD BE NO REVERSING ROLES WITH OPPOSITE RACISES WHAT SO EVER!

SHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone in Hollywood may hear you.Why aren't any black tv shows being turned into white movie

Seriously, I wouldn't want to see that for the same reason I'm not interested in this other crap. The originals were classic, and have no need to be remade. The only reason for race reversal is to exploit the race they are changing to in order to get people to see it.
Would we really need a remake of Good Times or Sanford & Son with an all white cast. I think not. What would be next? Clint Eastwood playing George Jefferson???

Why is everything allways about race? Who should play who. What can/can't you say?
I have no idea what race anyone is on this site that i talk to and i think most of us get on very well.
This is the perfect example of a perfect world as race doesn't/shouldn't matter.

It's not about race. It's about the studios/networks using race as the only means to push an otherwise unremarkable & totally inferior product. I could care less what race the actors are. I was merely commenting on a trend that seems to be running wild these days. Why is everything allways about race?
Face it, if you or I walked into a studio and tried to pitch a straight up remake of the honeymooners we would get thrown out on our ass in a heartbeat (unless we somehow managed to bring Jackie Gleason back from the dead to reprise his role).
Now, by playing the race reversal card, some snake oil salesman can convince studio execs to go ahead with this dreck by pulling out all kinds of overblown demographics, and promising "new audiences".
Funny, any Afro American I ever asked thought the honeymooners was great just the way it was

That wasn't meant as an attack on you MP. I agree with where you're coming from.
Somebody once posted that The Warriors should be remade with an all Afro American cast and it would be better that way.
Iwouldn't want to see a gang of all Latinos or caucasians.
I think the film is perfect the way it is and while you notice what race the cast are it doesn't matter what race they are.
People saying an all Afro American cast would be better are making it a race issue and i don't like that. I can't remember who said it as it may have been in the shout box.
Hope i've not offended anyone as i certainly don't want to but, if i have you must have misunderstood where i was coming from.
Peace.

Nope, no offense taken
. I just wanted to point out that I didn't dislike the idea of these remakes because of the all black cast, but because that is the only reason they are being made. I wouldn't want them remade with any cast because I can't see anyone doing justice to Art Carny & Jackie Gleeson.
Also, it's interesting to note that except for the Warriors & the Turnbulls, all the other main gangs were not very diverse:
Riffs - all black
Rogues - all white
Orphans - appear to be all Latino
Furies - all white
Punks - all white
Lizzies - all girls (my kind of gang
)
Guys with the striped shirts & funky hats - all oriental
Guys with the pointy hats on subway platform - all oriental
Guys with the camo jackets & berets - all black

o.k. i tried to leave this one alone but, make no mistake, it's ALL ABOUT RACE!! it always has been, and always will be. i grew up in an all black neighborhood, and never was racisist. (woulda been dangerous) i try to look past color, but very few people do. a few thing's that are starting to bother me though are, the nerdy white guy, (the black guy is always cooler) the wimpy white guy, (the black guy is always the tougher one) the lame white guy, (the black guy always get's the girl) i have a little boy that i'm trying to teach that it's ok to be white, that it doesn't mean your'e uncool. (that will probably be conceived as racist) but i think EVERYBODY should be proud of their heritage, not JUST african americans. but it seems like these day's you are supposed to feel guilty if you're white, especially if you're a man! forget it you're the devil! (unless you're gay, than you're ok.) african americans have no problem what so ever voicing their displeasement on a regular basis of white america, making fun of white people, it's called freedom of speech. whites do it and their racist's! like hank hill said "what kind of counrty is this when i can only hate a man if he's white!" all the other posts here are so worried that they're gonna offend someone, why? the african american (i can only assume he was african american, he logged in as "niggerz") who posted on the shout-box, wasn't! as soon as a few people didn't agree with an all black cast, immediately we were all racist's! why? how bout treatin everybody the same? not extra respect, or less respect, because of your color, but because of the kind of person you are? can you imagine an all black movie, remade with a white cast? the world would stop! every african american association would protest, and lobby against it, because they would say that whites were stealing their heritage, or erasing it so to speak. isn't this the same thing? but it's ok because it's only being done to white people. don't sound exactly fair, does it? if you look hard enough for anything you're gonna find it, even if it's not there. especially racism. african americans view everything under a microscope, for racism. all i know is i owe no one respect because of their color, nor do i owe anybody anything for thing's that happened in the past, that i had no part of. and neither does anybody else, black or white. how about just bein people, without oweing anybody anything? and if anybody doesn't like this post, that's just too damn bad! freedom of speech means everybody, not just african americans. p.s anybody wanna argue about this, i got nothin but time!
Tried to give the devil my soul...
She said i had nothing to bargain with...

That's cool. Nobody should take offence to that as nothing is offensive and if anyone does find it offensive then they need to take a good look at themselves!

What gets me mad is the way things are done. I see all time that everyone says white people are the most racist people when black people and latino people have their own award shows and exclude white people but if it was the other way around then white people are being unfair. I hate the race reveral idea because I think it is an insult to change a classsic figure that all of us are used to see into someone else. I wouldn't want to see a remake at all. I've been seeing Jackie Gleason as Ralph Cramden my whole life. I don't wanna see Cedric or anyone else as him- it's disrespectful and wrong.

Arnold ain't in it) and Sly is trying to get Rocky 6 made - why I don't know.

Ok, just to add a point to what I was saying before about Hollywood, I watched the premier episode of Kojak the other night and guess what - It was pretty good.
The only thing is, except for the fact that Kojak sucks on lolipops, (and is bald, which to my knowledge Ving Rhames has always been anyway), the show had absolutely nothing to do with the original series.
This is what pisses me off. The series should do alright on it's own merits, but in order to reel in an audience that would most likely never watch it, they name it Kojak & turn him black.
Anyway, if you haven't seen it & like cop shows like The Shield, give it a try.
