Inside Man

Post by emissary »

Great Movie.  Spike Lee does a great job.  Also, the movie opens in the best place for a movie to open on the entire planet:  Coney Island USA, right under the Cyclone.

That's the one with Denzel Washington right? If it is I want to see that movie so badly, it looks amazing.

OK, I caught this flick last night. There are a lot of things I liked about it. But there were some glaring problems I had with it.

First Off - the good: Denzel Washington just gets better & better. I think this was his best performance since Training Day. Plus the one liners & jokes he cracks in the middle of nowhere just crack me up.

Bank Robber: " In 2 days I'm gonna be in a hot tub with 2 girls named Tanya & Monique sucking down some pina colada's."

Denzel: "No, in 2 days you're gonna be in the shower with 2 guys named Jamal & Leroy & what your gonna be suckin' on ain't no pina colada."

Jodi Foster -    All I can say is dammmmmmnn. After seeing the poster for Basic Instinct 2, I didn't think anyones legs were gonna come close to Sharon Stone's, but Jodi has got it goin' on! She looks 1000 times better than in Flight Plan, where she looked absolutely horrible.

OK the thing that really didn't do it for me was the amount of belief you need to suspend in order to watch this movie. This isn't a comic book movie with guys with super powers, or Star Wars in a galxy far far away. This is about a bank robbery.

1. Where is the FBI? Bank Robbery is a federal crime & FBI headquarters in New York is 2 blocks away from the bank that was being robbed. They would have been all over that & there is no way they would have "overlooked" the fact that the guy plastered himself up in a wall for a week.

2. Since when did the NYPD start shooting hostages (in broad daylight & in front of all the TV cameras no less) as they are released from the bank. Also, the whole "oh man it's an Arab" and beating him down when the one hostage was released with the bank robbers demands. Not a very good portrayal of NY's finest.

3. Just who the hell was Jodi Foster supposed to be anyway? In the previews, I thought she was with the FBI, but she's just some "Ms Fixit" in business for herself that can bully the Mayor of New York and broker a deal with bank robbers?

Good analysis.  Two things.  On the line that Denzel says about prison.  Doesn't he say "Jamal and Jesus"?    Of your down sides, I wasn't distracted by the first two because I could believe that if you're good enough the wall thing might work.  The FBI issue never really crossed my mind.  But.  I am with you 100% on number 3.  Who and What was Jodi Foster supposed to be?  Organized crime, politician, both?  It made no sense.  The movie didn't need her.  But Hollywood wants to put a big fat name on a poster or preview so people will think they're getting Agent Starling in a movie with Malcom X.

You're right, it was Jesus. I think I got the girls names wrong too. :(

There are people like Jodi Foster in big business who are professional "fixers", brokering high powered deals and such, it just seemed that she was a little too high powered being able to control the mayor & all.
