Nine tokens please. That'll be $4.50

Post by emissary »

  I just took a close look at that shot of the guy paying for his group to ride the train.  (like WC will do for us in 2009)  Man, that guy pays with a $5.00 bill.  I know it was a long time ago.  I just never saw it before and assumed it was a $20.00.

They probably got a reduced rate for "protecting" their home station, or maybe it was just a long long time ago when things didn't cost so much  :D As for paying for everyone in '09, I'll be the first through the turnstile

I remember 23 cent gas, 19 cent gas war once  and 10 cent comics, candy bars, pop etc so yes things have gone way up. As of late seems like things are starting to get outta hand, for sure rent, home prices, fuel, food and on and on.

Makes me laugh when people say stuff about how much things cost back in the day.

My Mum would say to me i would get 6pence for my pocket money and get comics, sweets and still have some money left over.

I have to remind her that her parents probably earned around 2 pounds a weeks.

Thats true Fox but while many major costs from the late 60s fuel, rent, housing, heating fuel, cars etc etc have gone up 10 to 15 times or more the average wages or at least mine hav'nt even come close to that (maybe 4 times). A man on the ball with a good college education (not me) can do very well but a average factory worker or non union worker I think is feelin the pinch.

This is talking about a very specific scene in the movie.  In a place this big, it's the little things that people zoom in on to discuss.  Otherwise, you would have one thread of people arguing over who would win if you put all nine Warriors in a dog fighting pit and only one could survive.

In 1979, subway fare was only 50 cents. According to my handy math skills, that's equivalent to about a dollar fifty today. Still cheaper, but remember that the subway was falling apart back then. Remember also that back then, a dollar was equal to about three dollars now. Simple answer: inflation. Long answer... inflation .
