I am sure this was fictional gang.  I mean I can see the Orphans and even the Warriors as real gangs, can't say the same about the Furies though.

Well if you stick with walter hills constant greek/roman mythology theme in the warriors, he more than likely got the furies name from that source. The furies were also known as "the daughters of the night", so maybe he got the idea for the tag on the poster from there as well.

Maybe if the Furies wore something different, they would of been more believeable, but then again, the Furies are not the Furies without their baseball attire.

The Greek Mythology FURIES

Three goddesses of vengeance (Furiae, Roman name): Tisiphone (avenger of murder), Megaera (the jealous) and Alecto (constant anger). They were also called The Daughters of the Night, but were actally the daughters of Uranus and Gaea. Another name for them is the Erinyes (Greek name).
Without mercy (Mercy???:lol:???), the Furies would punish all crime including the breaking of rules considering all aspects of society. They would strike the offenders with madness and never stopped following criminals. The worst of all crimes were patricide or matricide, and first and foremost, the Furies would punish this kind of crime.


Well, who knows if W. Hill really got "Furies" idea from a Greek Mythology source... anyway it's true that he (before making The Warriors) also (like Sol Yurick) studied "Senofonte's Anabasi" (Greek Mythology)... so very good idea Ninth Delegate, I mean "The Daughters/Armies of the Night... Yeah!!!

But yeah, they should need new clothes... well look at their original... Yeah, one of them had a sorta bat...

This background of work is amazing to me,
Any kind of feedback and ideas,about The Furies,only makes them look larger than life
To me,because now it added to them..
Your intricket attention to detail,in the case of The Furies,is amazing..
That whole back story can give alot more Depth to The Furies..
I learn something new everyday..

The Baseball Furies (or simply The Furies): A New York Yankees-inspired gang in pinstriped baseball uniforms wielding baseball bats and wearing facial makeup similar to that of the rock group KISS, only multicolored instead of black and white. The Furies are never heard to speak. They are an intimidating presence as they chase the Warriors down but prove ineffective fighters during the ensuing brawl in Riverside Park. The Furies were created because of Walter Hill's love for baseball. In Greek mythology, the Furies were the embodiment of vengeance.

ND's idea about The Furies from the Greek Mythology and Lion's doubt about their real clothes!!!
I think anyway it's constructive all of us here are talking about Mythology, I mean not only about today gangs, indeed in the past the armies were really a sorta gangs!!!

I'd add, pierangler, that link... wikipedia The Warriors one, I don't just think they have inserted it yesterday...

I think the gangs from then were "real gangs", I mean they went out of their way to represent and standout from other gangs, they really backed up their turf and loyalty to their sector.  I must say I have to respect that.

The furies were something out of Walters mind but they seemed real to us and to others who saw the film which made us ask questions like did he get the ideas from real gangs.

Now baseball bats yeah maybe because lets be honest the favoutrite close range weapon with hard hit to the head was a bat back then.
And Kiss was a big hit so Walter could of been a fan hence the makeup.

so they were imaginitive things based on real things too.
