Why Isn't The Original Theatrical Artwork Used Anymore?

The original poster art for The Warriors is great and in my opinion one of the most memorable aspects of the film.
Anyone know why it wasn't used for the DVD cover?
It was used for the videotape but dropped for the DVD release.

Hopefully the inevitable Special Edition DVD will restore the original artwork.

I think it was just a bad choice not to use it.

The cover on the DVD is one of the crappest ever.

The reprint of the book uses the same blurry, dark photo and the ugly new logo instead of the "traditional" drawing of the gangs in the park...

However, some older VHS editions of the film had inferior covers, too, so it's not the first time. At least the CD with the soundtrack has the proper cover... :o)

The original artwork is magnificient. I'm not a big fan of the dvd artwork.

When I first heard about it being released on DVD, I was suprised to see a new cover (needless to say.) Alas, perhaps another DVD released will revert to the orignal version.

I was shocked also when iI saw the DVD cover. I hope that the new DVD has the old cover with all the gangs.

I am pretty confident that they will go back to the old design for a SE DVD. Usually when a disc gets the "special edition" they go with a different cover so the obvious choice is the original art.
