Comic style scenes in directors cut

What does everyone (that has seen it) think of the comic style scenes in the new directors cut?
I think they are ok but they sort of pause the film for a sec and kind of takes away the suspense of whats coming next?
Or is it that Im just used to the original?
Ive never really assciociated the warriors with a comic book stlye/theme?

yeah, me either!
they weren't as ridiculous as i though they would be, i liked the one's that were like "meanwhile, in gramercy park" those were kinda cool! ya know the one's that said what was going on in different parts of the city.
but, you're right they did tend to slow the flick down a bit.

I agree, I never made any type of association with a comic book. "This too is a story of courage..." is just way too cheesy

Ive watched the new version with the comic sequences only once and most likely will never watch it again. Ive watched the featurretes 3 times though.

Yeah I agree, the featurettes are cool! They are not short either, bout 15mins each, but yes relating the warriors to the greek soldiers really didnt connect, but hey if that was Walters vision. I didnt see it though.
Its just a shame it lacks the things a ultimate cut should have, like the deleted scenes a?!

Also does anyone know if the actual wonderwheel is still lit up like that at night now?

Yes, the Wonder Wheel is still lights up at night - but sometimes they change the colors of the lights or paint the ferris wheel to prevent further damage of the salty air from an ocean... I could see the Wonder Wheel from a distance when driving on the Belt Parkway..

The Comic Book clips were a bit of a stretch,but it's all good!!!
It's a different prespective on the film

The featurette was the coolest bonus for me,cause I Love AJAX,
My only gripe with it was that they put a comic-book scene when the sun come up from Coney,and the seagulls are flying,it took from the scene alot when they did that,And it takes away from the mood of the scene,when they FINALLY get home

I liked some of the comic-book-esque scene transitions, except for the one right before the furies...it kinda gets in the way...i liked the solemness of everyone just looking at them before you knew what they were looking at.
However, i feel that a great anime like remake would be great, the action would easily be put into animation and be even more dramatic, as long as they kept it tight to the storyline

the featurettes are sweet its good to get the inside perspective and gossip lol

,but the comic clips i didnt like they kinda spoil the mood because of the pauses in between,im an OG version lover

Wow, they do still light it up, you should see if you can get a pic of it, that would be cool. I love the bit with the wheel at the begining, just so cool! Is Coney island park open at night or are the lights on just for show?

Obviously I prefer the original version, but the director's cut wasn't as bad as I had heard it was. The only real problem I had with it was the Baseball Furies scene. It's a lot better when you see them run out of the station and suddenly realize they've got company.

I like all the comic book style pauses, no problems for me. However, when they did that one at the end where it stops them walking on the beach..that was kinda..anti-climatic in way.

I echo the comments here, perhaps not as bad as I'd feared but unnecessary, and the Furies appearance and the end sequence were the most unwelcome comic book inserts.

Also, what was the big deal about the film being "set in the future" which Walter Hill seemed to think was so important to stress?
