SE DVD Review (No Spoliers)

Post by War Chief »

I got a preview copy of the UK version of the DVD (which is the same as the US version) - though my copy is PAL and region free. I'm going to write my views on the DVD here without spoiling it for those who've not seen it.

First off, the DVD is so much better than I expected and I am not bothered about there being a commentary. The features cover just about every scene in more detail than a commentary ever could. The features were no short of being fantastic and you should own the DVD for those alone! They answered loads of questions, cleared up some stuff and surprised me with loads of new facts which I've not heard before. They also interview about 15 different people related to the film from all aspects which was great.

The Introduction by Walter Hill is good and a nice addition.

The movie itself was great in 5.1 surround sound. You will already know about the new comic book effects and all I'll say is they are very interesting. I do like them as it puts a new twist on the whole film.

The biggest point I want to get across to those fans who have not yet seen it, is that after watching the film and all the features in sucession, I felt like I did after watching the movie for the first time. It's great to relive that feeling!

The only negative I have with the DVD is the non-inclusion of the deleted scenes though I can see why they may have left them out of this release since it is all about Walter Hill's vision. I also thought there was going to be a trailer for the game. But that wasn't on my DVD. They had included the original theatrical trailer. There's no photo gallery either, the photos are shown throughout the features which is why I think they are better than a commentary. The DVD menu is pretty sweet too and is much better than the first DVD.

Fans of the movie will LOVE this DVD!!

Cant wait to get it, just over a week now.

Im sure I will enjoy it, I am looking forward to seeing the documentary.

People complain about this new DVD, but I would rather have this than nothing. At least it is something new that is 'Warriors' related.
Who are The Warriors, there must be some word...

I'm not sure what people are complaining about since I really don't think it needs a commentary. Deleted scenes would have been good.

You'll enjoy it!

I too, was surprised by how much was covered in the documentaries. What you say is 100% true, I don't see how a commentary would have added any more insight than was provided by the documentaries.

Take the Star Wars DVDs as an example. You get to a part of the movie that you would really like some clarification on, and instead of George Lucas telling you Why he wrote the scene that way, you get someone like the sound editor tell you how he created those sound effects by banging on a pipe. :?

I was also surprised by just how much the actors contributed to these documentaries. And even though lots of people on here posted they hate the Anabasis comic intro, as I said in another thread it provides a nice link to the book.

I just bought the DVD and its was really refreshing seeing the documentary stills and the actors talking about how they all got the parts they played. I love how the release of the DVD coinsides with the video game which I also bought last night and am addicted to already. I cant wait to get off work and go home to play more!!
