MESTIZO69 :FINAL VIEWS ON ULTIMATE DIRECTORS CUT DVD REGION1

Post by MESTIZO69 »

So here's the conclusion i've come to..Yes i love the original..after viewing it a minimum of 100 times,it's obvious..Do i love the new version..Yes, somewhat..not as much as the original, but i do..Why?..Because it's an all new version with new goodies added to it,which makes it fresh and exciting to see ..I'm sure that's probably what the director wanted for entertainment purpouses..Would i show the new version to a first timer?..Absolutely not..The original version 1st,new version 2nd..The marketing and communication to the public with this disc i believe was very poor as well.

In my opinion, this version should not have been labled as an 'Ultimate'director's cut..but properly worded would've been 'Alternate' directors cut,,because that's really what it is..A different version..The term 'Ultimate' when attached to this dvd is strictley for 'Hype' value..to sell more copies..Feel me?..It should've been part of a 2 disc set,one dvd being the original, the second dvd being the 'Alternate cut'..Plain and simple folks..Heck,maybe even a 3 disc set with the TV version seperate and more extras.

It's quite obvious that the dvd was rushed in a hurry and some of the little things were ignored..like placing original music on the dvd menu instead of the confusing action movie score that totally sounds out of place..The cover couldve been different since they already used the same redundant pic for the other dvd..Confusing again..the list goes on.

Now i'm about to discuss my outlook on why Walter and Paramount have inserted the fun, comic scene storyboard wipes in the film, with illustrations and captions that may seem unecessary to some ..What makes sense to me now is that they placed all those specifically, including the 'Baseball Furies' name drop for marketing and merchandising purpouses..

This is where some may be a bit hurt..You see it makes sense to do all that so audiences who've never seen the original, especially younger kids who take up most of the world's majority of videogame and action figure sales, will embrace the charactor's enough and much more easily to the point of buying the videogame when it comes out(another hint why the dvd came out two weeks before the game..hmm?..Psychology baby) ..it's not over, they'll hopefully rush out and buy the action figures..the T-shirts..the posters..the underwear..the watches..the cereal..Get it?

I won't be too surprised if there are 'official' Warriors halloween costumes..It all makes sense that this was pre-meditated as a joint effort idealogically by Paramount,Rockstar Games and Mezco toys..All that extra cartoon type shit added to the new dvd, that either some dig or dismiss is geared more towards younger audiences.

The Warriors is now a full blown franchise..The remake is next people..although it isn't really supposed to be a remake right..It's got the franchise name though..More money..more money!!
Now i'm not saying that this makes it bad because I AM and always will be a big kid..I'll never completely grow up..How boring would that be?

I don't mind the thought of Warriors merchandise,I do mind however if it is over manufactured like Star Wars..because then it takes away the special value to it all..The sacred validity..It will be more common..Kinda like the old classic tale of your favorite 'Indy' Rock or Hiphop artist getting signed to a major record label..and then before you know it on MTV and every radio station 50 times a day..Let's hope it doesn't get overblown..I 'will' always love The Warriors though, even if Britney becomes a fan..LOL!

Next time Paramount hopefully won't rush a dvd with such value, sloppily in order to be ahead of the release of a videogame..These are only my opinions though...and one other thing.."I CAN'T WAIT TIL' THE GAME COMES OUT NEXT WEEK!!!"..Back 2 Coney ;)

I agree with U...the new DVD didn't meet our expectations and desires :-(
BUT, we gotta admit that Paramount and Walter Hill were both honest. They presented the new dvd as "ultimate director's cut" and NOT the "collector's or anybody else's cut". Hill says in the featurette that this is the version he always wanted to make. We gotta respect Hill's desire to present the movie in the new format, but we DON'T have to love it,right? Thanx to the featurete, the DVD was not a waste of money (for us hardcore fans, rarely a Warriors buy is). We just expected more and it's really our bad, guys.

I strongly believe that this DVD version wouldn't have appeared if it wasn't for the Rockstar game. A new market will appear, thanx to the game, a market of young kids, who would appreciate(?) a new "packaging" of a very old movie that their fathers saw and loved.

And since young kids wanna have the whole package, why don't we throw in some action figures to make the package cooler?

Still, this October is a great month for us Warriors fans around the world.

This 26 year old movie is really a BIG item after all!!!

I totally agree with you in that..They should have release a 2 disc or a 3 disc, since that is the trend with DVD's now aday Hell Look at this,Titanic a 3 Disc DVD coming out??? ](*,)

Ahh,the good old days on Ebay, before all of this, when we would all scramble to get the Cool Warriors Collectables, and it was cool when it was something that was only for The hardcore Warriors Fans.
But now with all of the intrest regenerating in The Warriors,It only going to make it harder for the fans to get a hold of things?

I think this issue has had its time in the spotlight. Who cares? I wouldn't mind if I only had my VHS copy. I would still know my stuff better than just about anybody.
