No commentary....a huge let down. Thanks for the review though CleonsChoice. Other extras sound great.

Thank you so much for posting that!!
The fact that I get interviews with original cast makes it worth the purchase price for me!!
Much as I wanted the deleted scenes, lets face it, in my world, any time I can spend some with Michael Beck, I am HAPPY!!! ANd getting a new view of the whole movie, that is wonderful too.

I just got something interesting today. Rona barretts GOSSIP from July 1979, and she has pictures I haven't seen shots of before.
Her article is about; Does the Warriors deserve the violent reaction?

But her first black and white shot is the whole gang in front of the Grafitti wall. I can't recall ever seeing this particular shot of them posed like:
Cleon sort of sideways, one arm scratching the other, Rembrant standing sideways, back to Cleon, arms crossed; Cochise full front-with his arm around Cleon's?? GIRL, and they're standing in exactly the same pose, right legs forward-hip to hip-like they are walking together in step-then Cowboy standing sideways arms crossed; Ajax with his arm curling up showing his bicept resting on Cowboys shoulder, back to back with Vermin, Swan full front with Bowie knife, Fox sideprofile, arms crossed, and Snow, full front, with his boombox.

She also has a bl/wht panoramic type shot of the beach scene, with Luther and his 9 guys standing grouped, Luther pointing his gun at Swan and Swan just having his hand on his knife, sort of hidden behind him all the rest of the Warriors fanned out behind him, Cochise is holding his pipe like he is ready to start swinging.

I was glad to get it, and glad to read something good that someone was thinking about the new dvd, which I am expecting a shipping email about any day now.

and i do have the panoramic shot of the Luther's gang against the Warriors on the beach - same description you said.. i will look around in my hard drive later.

I knew if it was out there somewhere, someone with a scanner would save me, if I just described it good enough, as I don't have a scanner!!

ohs-I don't have a scanner, when/if I finally get one and learn how to use it, I will share.

When I look at the photo--first thing that strikes me is how much older Rembrant looks there than any other shot I have seen of him. interesting.
AND how tall/built SNOW is--he makes Fox looks small, and it isn't just his hair either.

Video: How Does The Disc Look?

Now sporting its first-ever widescreen transfer, the anamorphic DVD of The Warriors is really quite impressive givien the age of the material. Colors can be bold and aggressive while maintaining a natural tone, including very realistic fleshtones. Blacks are solid with decent shadow detail, although it did falter a bit from time to time most likely due to the source material. Film grain is visible but never distracting while edge enhancement has thankfully been minimized. The print used for the transfer was also in better than expected shape with a real void of damage and film wear. Fans of this film should be immediately impressed. It's not M:I 2, but this is great work from Paramount.

With all due respect the review from DVD File is from 2001. Clearly the technology has come some way even since then. What was considered nonpareil then is often simply not that impressive now. I've always been happy with the original DVD release especially when compared to my old VHS issue and laserdisc (which was manufactured in 1981!). I've kept the laserdisc simply because it beautifully reproduces the original poster artwork on an album size format. Perhaps the reviewer was overly negative about the appearance of the first disc, but I do believe that has something to do with just how much better the new disc's transfer looks. And, I believe the new disc can look that much better...can't wait to see it myself.

I KNEW ABOUT THE RE-RELEASE SPECIAL ADDITION OF "THE WARRIORS" MONTHS AGO, AND I WAS SO LOOKING FOWARD TO IT.
i still am..although im a little disappointed in the extras. #1 WALTER HILL COMMENTARY..next i was looking for those TV VERSION SCENES as extras..
OPENING AT CONEY,ON WAY TO MEETING THE BRONX,EXTRA DIALOG SCENES,EXTRA RIFFS SCENES (dialog). so that sucks these are not part of SPECIAL ADDITION.

although, since THE WARRIORS is probably one of my favorite films with the CINEMATOGRAPHY by ANDREW LASZLO..great to see this 'clean-up' and restored..happy to see that. since JOHN CARPENTER is my favorite director of all time, this film always had a "JOHN CARPENTER LOOK" to it, like the earlier films by cinematographer DEAN CUNDEY..very similar.

glad to see extras like with interviews with the cast and crew now..good touch

to be honest, i know WALTER HILL had the intention to give the film a COMIC BOOK type theme..but i doubt he originally intended to have those cartoon images in the film...think he just added this to the new addition.

all in all im happy with this addition...ill be heading to the nearest BEST BUY or TOWER to pick this up next tues. 10/4.

and im sure ill be looking for a real SPECIAL ADDITION of THE WARRIORS someday, when all the above extras i mentioned will be a part of this.
how can i not buy as many versions that come around...this is my all time favorite flick!!

I hear ya, Cleon's choice but the old disc still looks pretty good for a film of it's age and what I'm scared of is that often with newer releases they will jack the contrast and color to make it look more punchy, (The new Ghostbusters dvd has had this done) and it doesn't look the way it was suppossed to. I just watched a new transfer of "Lady in White" last nite and the color was WAY too oversaturated. Also, sometimes they will add edge enhancement to make the pic. look artificially sharper which can ruin the image when projected on a large screen. (I have a 92" screen) "Gangs of N.Y." is like this and the opening battle looks terrible. So just because a dvd is newer doesn't neccesarily mean the PQ will look better. The recent Star Trek "Generations" has a TERRIBLE transfer and it's from Paramount. The new "The Black Hole" even though anamorphic looks worse than the original non -annie disc. So I will wait and see with the new transfer.

Hey War Chief, Can you confirm that the UK DVD has a full length commentary by Hill. Or is it just an introduction?
