Re. your question: "What's under the piping?", what do you mean exactly?

There was lengthy debate as to if there was ever a different strip of material under the black piping, or if it's a slightly different color due to any kind of treatment

I've just made an interesting discovery: there is indeed, "...a different stip of material under the black piping"!!!

Ok, so looking at these wonderful pics, this is what I see and how I would break it down for a customer if they wanted to order these patches from these pics (if I was still in the label biz lol):

1) THE ROCKER: It looks like the ROCKER is a MUSLIN base which is a canvas like material that comes in different thicknesses. The WARRIORS letters looked to be completely stitched on the base. It really doesn't look embroidered, but you can see the stitches confirming they were made by hand and not machine. The RED BORDER looks embroidered, and the TAN edge of the base material looks like it has a morrowed edge.

Actually, the Rocker hass more a satin/silky base.

2) THE WAR-BIRD: This on the other hand looks fully embroidered except for the BLACK outline around everything. It is funny to see that the outline is not very accurate and is pretty sloppy.

3) PIPING: I am now 100% sure that there is NOTHING underneath the PIPING. It is the color that the vest was originally before it was weathered. You can see there is no other material behind the BLACK leather where it is coming off the vest.

I'm sorry, but there is indeed a strip of material beneath the piping.

If BOBBIE can confirm any of this, it would be great.

My question is, who is going to take these pics and make some legit patches already?

I have always said the ROCKER was NOT fully embroidered. Is it satin or silk? Hate to be a pain, but we have been discussing this for a while.

Ok, there is a strip, but what is the color of the strip? Any way to get a closer pic of this?

I'm no expert on textiles, but I'm gonna go with satin.

It's just a different shade of brown to the rest of the vest. I'll try to zoom right in for you so you can see, but might take me a few days to get round to it, sorry!

Thanks for all the answers. The vest and patches are smaller than i thought. Also this answers the debate that the color in the diamond trim is a lighter color. Also from the photo it looks as though the color of the vest itself is a brownish color and not the reddish color from the movie (it was thought to be camera filters or maybe lights). Also I never noticed that the buttons were two-tone, which is pretty unique. The patches are definitely better or seem more accurate than the vest from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13197 . If this is all legit, thanks again for all the info and sharing the vest Bobbie Mannix!

To be accurate, all that's been said thus far is that it's a different shade, but not necessarily lighter

Don't forget - it's been over 30 years- it may have faded slightly

Also, there are some markings that indicate it may have been treated in some way, and the "stuff" may have come off over time...

thanks again for all the info and sharing the vest Bobbie Mannix!

Indeed - I'd say these posts qualify as some of the most exciting we've had in years!

Oh, thank you! That's very flattering!!! I've got some good news for you: we've only just scratched the surface! Admittedly, I may not have anything else quite as exciting as the vest, but I think I can still pull one or two more interesting items out of my hat! ;) Stay tuned, boppers...

Is the material in the centre of the buttons the same as the vest?

Those buttons are the same as the one's on the Eastgate jacket i've got, they are all plastic, looks like they've been stained by the dye and it's rubbed off round the edges. i'm pretty sure the jacket IS the colour that the vests would have started off too.

Oh, erm, that makes me a little nervous, not knowing who you are and all. Hope you understand? Sorry!

What are your credentials? Where can I view your work? Are you suggesting to come all the way down from Newcastle to do this?
