I was a genre conflicted teen back in the 80's.  Used to be a B boy  (if it aint from the east coast then it aint proper hip hop).  Those old skool tracks are still heavily sampled by todays artists (i'm looking in your direction Jordin Sparks).
Was also big into metal as well. If only Paul Dianno had stayed with Maiden *sighs*

Can't forget the Debbie Gibson vs Tiffany war 

And I never did manage to complete was of those damn rubiks cubes.

Whoa, old topic.  I too was into hip hop back in the 80's. I used to dig kid n play, run d mc, force md's, rodney o and joe coolie, public enemy, world class wrekin crew, nwa, fat boys, ice t and the glove, king t, slick rick and doug e fresh, to name a few artists. 

The gibson and tiffany war... too funny.  Before Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera were competition. 

I can appreciate all the 80's music, like the heavy metal, punk (like the clash), new wave (I remember duran duran, depeche mode), and stuff like the smiths and the cure.  In fact I might see Morrissey in concert.
