Re: Swans original screen worn vest
As many stated before, it's a fake. Profiles In History are hit or miss with props. Sometimes they are real, sometimes they are fake. Right off the bat, the color is wrong. Over the years many Star Wars props, Harrison Ford's Blade Runner gun and 1960's era Batman costumes were very questionable just to name a few. For example, here's a discussion about the Green Hornet mask on auction:
http://thecaveboard.yuku.com/topic/6876?page=1
I bought some Buck Rogers costumes from them, but knew the source was 100% legit. The problem is, PIH doesn't check their sources. I could sent a prop and tell them it's real and they will list ity on their site and place it in their catalog. As long as they are making 18% off of the buyers premium they charge, they don't care.

Re: Swans original screen worn vest
IF its a fake (and theres no concrete proof either way at this point), then its a damn good one.  Theres no replica vest to buy thats as accurate as this.
If theres someone out there running these off, they could make a killing on ebay.
I still think its this vest in the top right corner (which was claimed to be swans vest)

The price is a bit low for this auction. Movie vests are usually around the $20.000 mark.

Re: Swans original screen worn vest
Just to put my 2cents in, the vest that is up for auction (and I am not saying wheter it is real or not) the top rocker is made of what looks like a cotton poplin base (like a canvas thus the fringe)with the letters and border stitched. So this may be a prototype. I do not think they made one vest for each person and the poplin is a cheap means to make a patch I make them everyday and they cost $1.00. If this is true (again I am not saying it is) it also has to make us think wheter the top rocker was a full embroidery or a poplin with some embroidery. Remember on the special dvd they said the patches where stiched by hand. Embroidery is not done by hand at all. I wish we knew for sure.

$20,000 U.S. is what a screen used vest should go for? That seems like an awfully high estimate. Has any ever been sold on the open market?Ninth Delegate wrote:

A couple of old threads for you to browse.  Do any of the discussions in these sound familiar?

Re: Swans original screen worn vest
Yea, but those were all about the piping and color of the vest etc. Looking at this vest I am convinced, not only was the vests brown and oiled up and wet to give it the reddish look, but that the rocker was not a full embroidery. I think the letters were sewn on a cotton poplin and then the added a backing to it to give the look of a fully embroidered patch. The "war-bird" looks fully embroidered but I think that too is on a cotton BLACK backing to give it depth and the look of a fully embroidered patch. I wish someone (anyone) with knowledge from the film or who worked on the film (Ninth contacted the cosutme director Mary Winston but only heard back from her assistant) to find out all these questions.
Oh and on the $1.00/ptch, you have to order about 2,000pcs. You want?

A hat-trick in sports is associated with succeeding at anything three times, generally in three consecutive attempts.

Re: Swans original screen worn vest
Nobody is disputing that, Rob. What we are saying is there is MORE than ONE swan vest. They would have made sevral for each actor. Hyperthetical question for you. Suppose Michael Beck had slipped badly during the graveyard scene and torn the vest? Do you think they would stop shooting the movie and wait a couple of weeks till a new vest arrives from Korea? No. They would have sevral made up for each actor incase any unforseen circumstances occured. Add an additional ammount for any needed by stunt crew. I'd estimate the number of vests out there being closer to 30 than there is 9.Tantive7 wrote: I'm still sticking to the story That Michael Beck told me,and that is good is enough for me!!

On another note, The R and the S on fox's vest look to have seperated by the time he gets to the orphans and is also seperated on his train crushed stunt double.
