leather piping
leather piping
Anyone have the pattern (exact size and diamond shape etc) of the leather piping? If you also have the leather color that is underneath (if there is a whole nother topic), I can make yards of the piping correctly. I would have to buy SOME yards of them, but I think som would buy it. I am doing this for myself and I'm not trying to make a profit and I think we should have correct piping.

Re: leather piping
It goes a bit uneven once its applied to the vest. It was mentioned a while ago that the piping resembles a X shape, but its definatly diamonds as thats how it is in Bobbie's design sketches and also matches up with the design down the side of Cochise's pants.

Re: leather piping
Thanks 4NIK, that was EXACTLY what my HK factory needs to make this. In the pic, there is nothing UNDER the piping. Should I put something under? Again, I have to make some yards of this, would anyone want it?Ninth Delegate wrote: It goes a bit uneven once its applied to the vest. Re: leather piping
Its still under debate wether it was just die-cut or filled with something. I think we came up with the theory that it was smeared glue underneath giving it a slight lighter appearence. Shame no one has provided a close up shot of an actual vest piping. Golden closet has had the rembrandt one on display at one of the past conventions. Maybe someone took a close up? Could try the flicker site and see if anything is on there.
Personally, I would leave it as Die cut. The mondotees filled piping didn't look right IMO.

The lighter leather under doesn't look right to me either. I will cost out and sample the piping just in black synthetic leather.Ninth Delegate wrote: Its still under debate wether it was just die-cut or filled with something. Re: leather piping
Hey Ninthdelegate, I mentioned the "x" thing like 3 years ago, great memory. I remember there was an argument about the color and there were some good close ups of the original movie vests: http://warriorsmovie.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=7348.0
If you look close at the original vests, there were NOT two little cicle in between the diamonds, but sort of like triangles. It is also difficult to determine what causes the difference in color in the diamond, whether it is glue, coloring another material or what, is up for debate and has been. I myself have just cut strips off a cheap skin of lambskin leather and then used a diamond shaped hole punch (the ones used for paper crafts). Ghetto, I know, came out uneven but it was cheap.
Anyhow duplicating the original piping is a real task, good luck and glad someone is doing this professionally.

So I will make just the black at the time. there were NOT two little cicle in between the diamonds, but sort of like triangles. i didn't see any scans of this. Which should I do? I want to make it as screen acurate as possible.Godfather wrote: Hey Ninthdelegate, I mentioned the "x" thing like 3 years ago, great memory. Re: leather piping
I don't have the program, but could anyone post a screen shot or close up of the piping/trim?

Re: leather piping
this is one of my larger pics, so i was able to zoom in using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, without losing too much detail (right-click the pic > choose Save Picture As... > save it locally, then open with WP & FV, and zoom in, to see what i mean)

Also, have you determined how many yards of piping are needed, estimating upwards for extra just in case?

Re: leather piping
No, I have not. I just decided to do this lastnight. I have no minimums so I can make any amount of yards. You wouldn't happen to know how much (with wastage) there is??

Assignment vest owners: everybody measure the piping and report back... don't forget the pockets!!LIER ONE wrote: You wouldn't happen to know how much (with wastage) there is??

Re: leather piping
Please let me know how much each vest takes. I am going to go with an 1/8" triangle instead of the circles because that what it looks like to me. Please it will take some time to make (about 2 weeks for a sample and about 2 weeks for production)this so your input will be greatly appreiciated.

Re: leather piping
I'll give mine a measure at the weekend. I've got the medium size covered. Mines the old skool style A1 with square trim pockets, so you might want to add a couple of inches to the final measurment.
