Fan Fic Competition FINALS: The Jewish Juggernaut vs. Ajax88

Post by GramercyRiff99 »

Alright, so I thought about continuing the narrative I started in the first post of round 2, but decided against it because I really can't will myself to write another of those right now.

Welcome to THE FINALS. That's right, the culmination of several weeks of hard work from both myself and the competitors are coming to a head NOW. Who will take home the championship? Will it be The Jewish Juggernaut? Will it be Ajax88? Will it be... okay, I'm out of competitors, BUT YOU GET THE IDEA.

Keeping with the theme of song titles, the theme for this round is: A Day in the Life. Deal with this however you like.

The deadline for submissions is 12 noon on Tuesday, July 15th. Good luck to both of the competitors, you'll need it.

Honestly, the deadline is very flexible here because it's only two people. Just get it in within a reasonable time and there shouldn't be a problem.

A Day in the Life

The sound of the alarm clock woke Cleon up out of a deep sleep. Sunlight streamed through the window of Cleon’s small room, in one corner was a small bed which Cleon slept on, by the bed was a chair with his pants draped over the back. Hanging on an old rusty nail by the door was Cleon’s Warriors vest along with his leopard print headband. Sitting on a box next to the bed was the old alarm clock that was still ringing. Cleon got up and shut the alarm off and started to put on his pants when he remembered that he was supposed to meet Swan later on that morning. Cleon stood up and went to put on his shoes, he looked around the room and his gaze fell on the red leather vest hanging by the door. This vest was his pride and joy, it signified that he was somebody, it showed that he was respected and it showed that he belonged somewhere. His thoughts flashed back to a time when he wasn’t somebody, he wasn’t respected, and when he felt as if he didn’t belong anywhere.

He was thirteen years old, he had two older brothers and a younger sister. His mom stayed at home all day and cleaned the apartment while his father was an alcoholic who worked at a factory and spent most of his time and money at the local bar. This particular morning Cleon was awakened by his older brother, Daryl.

“C’mon s***face, Mom wants you to get up and go to school today.” Daryl said to Cleon.

“Okay, I’m up but I’m not going to school today. I don’t give a d*** about what Mom says.” Cleon said as he got up

“ You better go to school today or Mom is gonna have Dad beat your a**.” Daryl said as he walked out of the room. Cleon just shook his head and started to get dressed. Once he was dressed he walked over to the bathroom and used the toilet, all of a sudden he heard his dad yelling over in the other room.

“Bull**** woman! I’ll do whatever the hell I want god damn it! I f I want to go drinking with my friends I will! You just shut your trap and make me my d*** breakfast!” Cleon’s father yelled

“We don’t have any food because you spend all the money at that damn bar!” Cleon’s mother yelled back.

“Don’t you sass me you b****! I’m going out!” Cleon’s father yelled as he slammed the front door shut. Cleon grabbed his bag from under his bed and quietly snuck out the front door. This was just a typical morning for Cleon, it happened almost everyday just with different words being yelled back and forth between his parents.

Part two

Cleon shook his head, trying not to remember his past. He had never talked about it with the other Warriors, Cleon saw it as a sign of weakness and he didn’t want the others thinking that he was going soft. He grabbed his vest off of the nail and put it on, remembering the first time he had ever put it on. He had been so proud to be able to lead his own gang because every member was like family to him, in fact he considered the other members to be his brothers. Cleon grabbed his headband and quickly put it on and walked out the door into the main room of the Warriors’ hangout. In one corner Vermin sat with a couple of the newbloods playing cards. On the couch Cochise was fast asleep after a long night of patrolling their turf. Cleon looked around and each of the Warriors present nodded at him as he walked towards the door. Outside the sun was shining

and the temperature was starting to rise. Cleon walked down the street to the corner by the old pawn shop, he saw Swan standing against the building waiting for him.

“ Good morning Warchief.” Swan said as Cleon approached him.

“Morning soldier” Cleon said to his second in command.

“So which place do you think we should stop at first?” Swan asked.

“ I don’t know soldier, I’ll let you pick.” Cleon said

“How about the bakery?” Swan suggested.

“Sounds good to me soldier, you lead the way.” Cleon said motioning for Swan to lead. Both Warriors walked further on down the street to the bakery, Cleon looked around to make sure there weren’t any customers in the store and to make sure that no cops were standing on the corner. Swan looked back at Cleon waiting for Cleon to give him the word for them to make their move. Cleon nodded and Swan walked in the front door.

“Oh hello Warriors, is there something I can help you with today?” The clerk said as Cleon and Swan both walked in.

“Yeah there is, you haven’t paid your protection money in awhile Don. We’re here to collect it.” Cleon said to the clerk.

“You Warriors haven’t been protecting my store very well, a couple of Jones Street Boys came twice last week and trashed my store both times.” Don said to the two Warriors.

“Well that wouldn’t have happened if you had paid us two weeks ago like you should have, then my soldiers would have protected your store. Now you need us more than ever, I suggest you pay up.” Cleon said with a harsh tone in his voice.

“Okay, okay I’ll pay you.” Don said reaching into his pocket. “Here take it, and make sure they don’t wreck my store again.” Don added as he handed Swan a wad of bills.

“Good, if those clown show up again we’ll show them whose turf this is. Just remember to pay us every week Don.” Cleon said as he and Swan walked out the door. As soon as they were outside Swan put the money in his back pocket and looked at Cleon.

“That was easy, I wasn’t sure if he was going to pay up.” Swan said to Cleon.

“All you have to do is tell them what will happen if they don’t. They don’t like their stores being wrecked so they’ll give in real easy soldier.” Cleon said to Swan. “C’mon lets head over to Yao’s restaurant we need to collect from him too.” Cleon said as they started walking down the street. Cleon looked around the neighborhood and saw children playing on the sidewalk and people going about their regular business. One particular child caught Cleon’s eye, a small boy that looked to be about seven or eight was being cornered by a group of older boys by the alley across the street. The leader of the older boys pushed the younger one down and kicked him in the stomach. The younger boy started to cry because he didn’t understand why the older boys were hurting him. The older boy picked the younger one up and pushed him up against the wall, punching him a couple of times in the face. The scene brought back painful memories for Cleon, memories that he thought he had buried deep in the back of his mind.

Cleon had just left the apartment building where his family lived, he walked a couple of blocks and stopped in front of the school. He hated school because he was ridiculed by the other students, he didn’t have any friends, the teachers always yelled at him because he never turned any work in, and he was constantly being called down to the principals office for one stupid reason or another. Cleon shook his head and turned away, he was tired of being made fun of, being yelled at and getting in trouble for things he didn’t do. Cleon decided that he wasn’t going to go back, he didn’t care what his parents said. Later on that afternoon, while walking down the street, he came across a group of boys that were much older than him, they looked to be about sixteen or seventeen and they all wore the same color shirts with a patch on the shoulder. The patches had a red flame in the middle with a black background, there were no letters or any other kind of marks, just the flames.

“Looky what we got here boys, it looks like this little boy is lost.” One of the boys said to the rest of the group. “Maybe we should teach him that its not safe to walk through this neighborhood all by himself.” The older boy added, the rest of them sniggering at the comment.

“Leave me alone, I’m just walking down the street.” Cleon said defensively.

“Oh isn’t he scary, I bet mommy doesn’t know he is out here all by himself.” The boy said to Cleon. All of a sudden the boy pushed Cleon up against the wall and began to punch him in the stomach. Cleon was taken by surprise and couldn’t react fast enough, the older boy pushed him to the ground and the others held Cleon down so he couldn’t fight back. The leader jumped on top of Cleon and looked right at him.

“Never wander through this neighborhood again, this is our turf no one messes with us, understand?” The boy said to Cleon, all Cleon could do was nod and the boy punched Cleon right in the eye before the others let him go. Cleon just laid there on the ground for two hours crying because he didn’t understand what had just happened. He thought that he was free to walk wherever he wanted, he didn’t know those boys and he wondered why they had hurt him. Cleon slowly got up and looked in the direction where the boys had ran off, he looked around and spotted the street sign. He memorized the name of the street and told himself that one day those boys would pay for what they had done to him. He noticed that it was getting dark so Cleon got up off the ground and started to walk back home.

Part 3

Cleon was brought back to reality by the kids’ yelling, he put his hand up to motion for Swan to stop. Swan had a look of confusion on his face as Cleon stopped him.

“Look, over there see those kids beating up that younger one?” Cleon asked.

“Yeah, so what do you want us to do about it?” Swan asked.

“Its not right, especially since those kids are much older, I’m going to put a stop to it.” Cleon said as he started to cross the street. “Hey! Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?” Cleon yelled at the group of kids. They all spun around at the sound of Cleon’s voice.

“Listen a****** mind your own business.” The leader said to Cleon, the boy then noticed that Cleon was wearing a Warriors vest, his eyes got real big as he realized his mistake. “Uh… uh… uh.. sorry sir I didn’t realize that you were a… a… a… “ The boy began to stutter.

“A Warrior? Next time I see you kids beating on someone smaller than you I’ll have my boys come down on you, understand? Cleon said harshly.

“Yes sir, it won’t happen again.” The boy said as he and his friends turned and ran back down the alley, each one of them was as white as a sheet. Cleon looked over and helped the little boy up.

“Now listen little one, you run along and don’t get into any more trouble.” Cleon said. The boy nodded and ran off down the street as fast as he could.

“Why did you step in Warchief?” Swan asked.

“Because that little boy reminded me of someone.” Cleon said

“Who?” Swan asked, his curiosity getting the best of him.

“Why does it matter soldier?” Cleon said sternly. Swan knew that it was best if he didn’t pry any further.

“C’mon lets go collect the rest of the money. It’s almost two in the afternoon.” Cleon said as he began to walk down the street.

A couple of hours later he and Swan returned to the hangout after collecting protection money from the rest of the local businesses. Cleon opened the door and walked in, he walked over to an empty chair and sat down, he looked around and saw that Cochise was now awake and was talking with Cowboy, while Vermin had left to go on patrol, and Ajax was busy hitting the punching bag that was hanging over by the bathroom. Swan came in and sat down in a chair next to Cleon, he pulled out the wad of bills that he had collected and handed them to Cleon.

“Okay Warchief, here’s everything we collected.” Swan said.

“Alright soldier. Hey, Fox whats the word on the streets? Cleon said to Fox who was sitting on the couch next to radio fiddling with the antennae.

“Nothing yet Warchief, only thing that’s happened so far was the Boppers having a rumble with the Moon Runners. So far there is no word on that either.” Fox said to Cleon as he continued to fiddle with the antennae. Cleon nodded and looked around the room, he kept thinking about the small incident that had happened earlier in the day with the group of boys beating up the younger boy. He remembered what had happened to him back then and what had also happened when he returned home, his thoughts began to drift off as he began to think about it.

Cleon walked in the front door to his family’s apartment, his body ached from the incident that had opened earlier that day. As soon as he walked in his mother was standing there in the kitchen doorway.

“Where in the hell have you been young man? The school called here earlier today and said that you had not shown up today either. You have a lot of explaining to do.” His mother yelled. Cleon just looked at her and started to walk to his room. “Don’t you walk away from me while I’m talking to you! I’ll have your father beat you’re a**!” His mother yelled as he continued down the hallway.

“Go ahead, I don’t give a s***!” Cleon yelled back at his mother. At that time his father walked out of the bathroom, and he had heard what Cleon had said.

“Boy! I’ve got a good mind to give you a beating for skipping school today and for sassing you mother.” Cleon’s father yelled. Cleon looked at him and rolled his eyes. “That’s it, I’m tired of your s***! I’m going to give you a beating you’ll remember!” Cleon’s father yelled as he grabbed for Cleon. Because of what had happened earlier Cleon couldn’t react fast enough  to escape his father’s grasp. His father grabbed him by the arm and pushed Cleon to the ground, he took off his belt and folded it in half and began to whip Cleon with the belt. Each blow sent a wave of intense pain through Cleon’s body, he was doing his best not to yell out in pain as his father continued to beat him. Cleon’s father began to tire out and each swing became slower and slower, finally Cleon had enough and pushed his father away from him. He sprinted for the door and wrenched it open, he didn’t even bother to close it as he ran for the stairwell taking the steps two at a time as he ran for the front entrance. He had made up his mind that he wasn’t returning to his home, he was tired of everything in his life, the beatings, his parent’s yelling matches, school, and getting pushed around by other kids. Cleon was tired of being a nobody, he wanted to be a somebody and have respect from others. He wanted to fit in and have a group that he could call his family. At that moment Cleon decided that he would go out and join a gang, a street family where he would be accepted by others and respected by others.

A month later Cleon had found a gang, their leader had taken a liking to him and had made him a lieutenant almost right away. He wore his gang colors with pride because he was now somebody,  he was respected and he fit in. He was no longer ridiculed by his peers and that small gang that had beat him on that fateful day were his first targets once he became a lieutenant.

Cleon’s thoughts returned to the present as the radio came on, the familiar voice of the DJ ringing throughout the hangout.

“Okay boppers lets get down to it. The Jones Street Boys tried to make a move on the Saracens but lost the game after a few key players went down swinging. In other parts of the city the Moon Runners were out grooved by the Boppers during a rumble down in West Harlem. That’s the word out on the street today, stay safe out there boppers.” The DJ said as she turned on another song before she signed off. Cleon stood up and looked out the window, he was tired because he had been up all day and he decided to leave Swan in charge while he slept. He walked over to his small room and shut the door, he took off his vest and headband and hung them up gently. He looked at them with pride as he took off his pants and draped them over the back of the chair. He laid down on his small bed and thought about all that he had accomplished since he had ran away from home and smiled because today was just another regular day in the life of a Warrior.

PART 1

A Day in the Life of an Unknown Soldier on the Dark side of Town
by the Jewish Juggernaut

“Samuel. Samuel. Wake up my child. It is time to wake up.”

“Huh? Who is that?” groggily voiced Sam while shielding his eyes from the blinding light.

“Your mother silly.”

“That’s not pos…” Sam lost his voice in shock as his eyes adjusted to the light and realized where he was and whom he was talking to.

“Mother? But…. but…. we are in Ethiopia. Mommy, how is that possible?”

“It is possible because you want it to be. You know what you must do. Come home my child.  Come home” whispered Sam’s mother as
her material form began to fade away.

“Mom? Mom, where are you going? Don’t leave me! Please don’t leave me,” pleaded Sam through the tears streaking down his face.

“What the f*** are calling me Sam. Mom? Dude, wake up we got to get going. Josiah called us for an emergency meeting.
Sam sat straight up in his bed. Light poured it’s way through the cracks in the wooden structure known as The Church of Light with Father Josiah as the spiritual leader.

“Yeah, yeah, one second. Let me get dressed and clear my head. I have been having some crazy dreams since the Massacre.”

“Sure, I’ll meet you in the Chapel. Can’t wait to hear what crazy s*** he has up his sleeve” said Dave as he walked out of the small cramped room which felt like a jail to Sam compared to the vast open land of his homeland, Ethiopia.
Sam got out of bed and put on his muscle shirt and camouflage pants. Next he put on his camouflage jacket, and his socks. Finally he put on his combat boots and his beret, which is a unique article of clothing available only to those who are officers in Josiah’s Army.

He walked out the room with military precision looking like a picture perfect representation of a soldier, but on the inside he was plagued with the meaning of his dream.  He had been born in Ethiopia but had moved when he almost nine years old when his father moved the family to Harlem.  Soon after though Sam, or Samuel as his mother was fond of calling him, began to hang out at the Church more and more until he began to live there full time.

“What did she mean- Come home? I don’t even know where home is? Is it here, or in Harlem or is it in Ethiopia? D*****what am I supposed to do,” thought Sam. As he struggled with his thoughts, he didn’t realize that he had walked into the Chapel looking confused and trouble.

“What is wrong my child,” questioned the man who had been like a father to him since he was ten years old. Father Josiah stood on the makeshift stage where he delivered his powerful sermons his huddled masses, or what is now left of his huddled masses after the Hell’s Kitchen Massacre.

“Nothing Father, just thinking of my fallen brethren and the revenge I would like to exact on those who killed them.”

“Well with the information that that Grizzlie turncoat gave us, revenge will be swifter then the wind.

“Yes Father. I trust whatever plan you have for me,” said Sam as he sat down with the small group of surviving Recruits.

Josiah walked behind his podium and motioned for silence.  “My children, you are my elite soldiers. You are warriors angels who bring death with bloodied steel. Your vengeance is swift and your mercy is nonexistent. You have been through Hell and back, and have become God’s knights in the process. I once spoke of darkness on the edge of our home that was like the Great Beast, sneaky and manipulative, and my prediction was correct in the worst way. We had believed that our eternal enemies the Hellfire’s were this darkness, but they were really tools of a greater evil. This greater evil is a caliber of foe that we have never faced before. It have been instilled with the dark intelligence of Devil himself. I see the thoughts of some of you and see that you are skeptical. How can so few defeat so many? Let us not forget David and Goliath. A smaller number of supreme holy warriors can defeat a soulless horde of demons. We will attack them at the black hole known as their heart. You will show no compassion, sympathy, or mercy because none will be shown to you. So go forth my sons. Go forth and revenge your brothers!

My next part will be in in a bit. Just trying to make my next piece worthy of a final round entry.

Looks like I am going to have to, unfortunately, declare this one Ajax88's by default. Not unfortunate in that I expected TJJ to win (I knew this one would be close, but I couldn't call who'd win it), but unfortunate that TJJ didn't submit a complete entry thus resulting in a default.

Congratulations to Ajax88. You got through the first two rounds, only to be screwed over by a default in the end, but that's still something to brag about, especially given how good your writing is. It's frustrating that every one of these I can remember has ended like this, but still. You are the official GramercyRiff99 Fan Fiction Competition Champion! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I know that feeling well. Out of the four fan fic comps I've won, I think one of them wasn't a default. You should still be proud of yourself for getting to the finals, because that was no easy task.
