...Hey, all.
As I wrote elsewhere, a buddy of mine recently gave me a copy of a book called "The Cross and the Switchblade" after he found out I liked The Warriors.
I couldn't put it down, and finished it in a few hours. It's the true story of a naive minister who goes to NYC in the laste 60s, and gets a huge number of the gangers to turn their lives around with a program called Teen Challenge.
I kept on seeing a number of the characters from the movie in the gang members described by David Wilkerson, the author. In particular, the meanest ganger in NYC is an 18 year old named Nicky Cruz- made me think of Ajax each time he opened his mouth. Another character named Lucky had me thinking of Vermin, but I digress.
Well, NIcky ends up changing so much, he leaves the life behind and becomes a preacher. He's written his own book since, titled "Devil on the Run," where he outlines his pre-and-post gang life in greater detail.
Now, for me, the question: Which of the Warriors do you think would be most likely to respond to a turn-arond message like the one I described? Could Swan and Mercy open up a soup kitchen? Ajax start a gym? I'm just tossing around ideas.
And, if you get a chance, check out "The Cross and the Switchblade." Definitely good reading.

I think that Swan would be the most likely to turn his life around. He didn't really seem to enjoy the gang life he was living. A big indicator is when they get to Stillwell Avenue station and Swan says to Mercy, " maybe ill just take off," or something like that.
Apart from that I think maybe Snow? He seemed like a normal guy rather than a gang member.

Same here, Swan didn't just seem to enjoy that Life. But maybe, those words about Coney were just a sorta Vent... and I also wonder, what would have he thought without Mercy?Luther828 wrote: I think that Swan would be the most likely to turn his life around. Personally i could imagine Ajax getting out of prison and changing his life around. But more surely i would say Swan for the same reason as Luther828.
