Warriors DLP on 60Ft big screen

Post by kowolski »

I work for a Movie theater chain. I install theater chairs and move heavy equipment (coin op video games projectors etc.) for a living. I recently moved some 35mm projectors to make room for giant christie DLP projectors. I was speaking with the DLP projectionist and he told me that you could load a DVD in it and watch it on the 60 FOOT screen. If you wanted to have a Warriors movie shown at a movie theater you would not have locate a 29 year old scracthed, brittle, dirty, missing scenes 35mm print. You could also play a directors cut on a big screen:D. Of course Im sure you would have give Paramount a piece of the action. Also I was told you could load a video game DVD into it and have tournament with it. This is new technoligy and only a handfull of theaters have these projectors. If I understood right they cost about 125K per screen. I have seen several movies with this projector and the quality is crystal clear. Im not sure what hurdles will have to be jumped to play The Warriors on a 60 foot digital screen, but I will check into if there is enough interest. The Location would be in Northern Calif.

that would be pretty cool to see, the movie theater in my town has DLP Christie projectors, and I believe we have one sixty foot wide screen. I think it would be pretty expensive in the long run to show it in a movie theater on a sixty foot screen because the whole theater would have to be rented, or just that one part of it if its a multi-screen theater, plus I think Paramount might actually be entitled to royalties, but I think that is only if you are charging admission at the door and Paramount has been pretty stingy about the copyrights of The Warriors too. A friend and I had a crazy idea about starting a videogame tournament in his backyard with the screen projected on the wall of his garage because he has a projector that he bought from his old school because the lens was kind of messed up, we never really pursued the idea, but we thought it was still a cool idea nonetheless. I would say go for it though, I've kind of wondered myself if something like this would be possible.

The movie theaters in Dallas advertise that you can rent individual theaters.  They allow you to use the screen for presentation.  I'm not sure what equipment they have or allow.  Some churches use them for weekly services.  There also becoming popular for company meetings.  It may not be that expensive.  Theater is closed on Sunday morning, so having a church service is only additional money to the theater.  Need probably 2 people there just to keep an eye on the place and provide assisstance.

I know the theater owner well and have run midnight movies before like resivor dogs, vanishing point, two lane black top.heavy metal and many others. The problem was locating a decent 35mm print of the movie. Running the shows at midnight was the only way to do it. becuase they wouldnt lose the screen for other shows that night. None of the shows were very successful, I was lucky to break even. Average film rental was about $400 and print shipping $75. But if all you had to do was come up with a dvd then you would cut the costs way down. Of course you would have to pay Paramount about 35% of ticket sales.  I will go there today and check on the feasabilty of of doing this.
