Hey kowolski---welcome aboard.
I saw the film several times in NY, and not once did I encounter any gang violence. I believe the couple of incidents I heard of around here were minimal---I actually encountered more fighting trying to get in during FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4 around 1984, as the lines were nuts! I believe there was a nasty case of theater violence in Chicago, but I can't find anything online about it.
At my school in 79 there were no real gangs. I would call them more like social clubs instead.
There were (The Stoners) The uniform of the Stoners was black steel toed workboots, large brass belt buckles, black heavy metal t-shirts Motorhead,Sabbath etc, bell bottom jeans. We could be found usally in the smoking section at the school. Some of these guys drove the coolest muscle cars in the school. We had hair styles like the Punks leader. I was a Stoner (We smoked weed)
There were (The Farmers) who actually had blue jackets/vests with patches that said FFA on the back (Future farmers of America) They usally wore WWF style buckles, massey furgason/cat tractor hats, cowboy boots, and had chewing tobacco rings on there pockets. They drove 4WD pickups with empty gun racks in the windows. They had one cornfed mongo type who nobody messed with (they drank beer)
There were (The Jocks) who were basiclly the sports teams guys. They always wore there school color jackets. Nobody messed with them they were the football team. They had freinds on both sides of the Stoners and Farmers.(They smoked weed, drank beer and got all the chicks)
There was always social conflict beetween the Stoners and Farmers. You would see grafitti at school that would say deep things like (Stoners suck/ Farmers rule) and visaversa :roll:The Stoners nicknamed the FFA The future F****ts of America.
When the Warriors movie was coming to town I remember hearing stories about violence breaking out in theaters back east.?? Anyways everybody from school was going to see the movie on opening night. Soon the rumor spread around school that if the Stoners and Farmers showed up that there would be a rumble

You would be considered a Wuss if you didnt go watch the movie that night with your freinds. (I was 15 and my mom dropped us off at the theater)

I went with four freinds and met up with some other cats at the theater. the WHOLE school was there to watch the movie and the possiable rumble. 8) I think it made the movie more exciting for us. After the movie was over and everybody was leaving all amped up. I thought for sure something was going to happen but It didnt

Just alot of hard looks, gestures and yeah rights, and later after school threats

We had to walk home about 3 miles from the theater, all the way quoting lines from the movie pretending we were having to bop our way back home. About a year later there was a actual fight beetween our groups. A black eye here a bloody nose there, both sides claiming victory  Oh and The Wanderers was a attached trailer on the movie. That's my true 1979 hick town Warriors moving going experience. Probally why Im such a fan of the movie.
