Why gangs with no guns?

Ok, the Rogues had one and the Lizzies did too.  If some gang members stayed behind while the "9 best went" from those gangs went, how is it that they didn't have guns too?  I mean, the Orphans should of had some, The Punks, etc.  I mean it's cool that they did all their fighting the "OLD SCHOOL MANLY WAY", it just seems impossible for a gang not to acquire at least one. IMO

I guess the reason for that is because the "OLD SCHOOL MANLY WAY",how you call it,is actually how the issues between the gangs  used to be sorted out back in the 70s and 80s.Also,I think that the director was a little bit affraid that the real gangs would copy lots of things from the movie,so he probably didn't want the carrying of guns to be one of them.

IMO, they didn't use guns... it was simply "OLD SCHOOL MANLY WAY", how you call it.
Maybe they had some guns, only 4 "BIG" problems... but I think they had a preference 4 manly fight... one to one, everybody vs everybody always without guns! Ok chains, bats, knives.... but no guns!
So both 9 best and other members would have never used fire weapons!!!
Now you can tell me that night was a "BIG" problem, but I think they wanted to catch guilties, or defend themselves by their own hands... it's more satisfactory!!! 8)

Yes people in 1970s didn't have guns. But like Adam08 told me gangs aren't perfect they did by some chane use firearms but not like gangs do now. But once you think about it gangs such as Hi-hats, Punks and baseball furies don't seem like the type of people that carry guns.

It would be Impossible for like any time after after world wars for street gangs to not have ATLEAST one gun, but like stated by almost everyone on this topic, Old School fist fights with hand held weapons are far more brutal and convincing than just shootouts.

and besides... everyone would be heavy muscle like Ajax if the carried a gun instead of learning how to actually fight... and guns just dont go with the images broadcasted by the different gangs through out The Warriors

Good question, but although most of these gang members have issues, with one another, and have different ideals in life, respect for Cyrus rules were honored.  Even in the violent gang world, some order is still established to keep it from going to anarchy.  Luther was the only nut to take the chance a sneak one in.  I am actually pretty sure other gangs have guns as well, but they were honorable enough not to bring them.  Also guns have to be bought.  For all we know, maybe most of these gangs have trouble with their financial issues,to afford them.  So maybe a few gang members were hunting with guns, but the warriors were fortunate enough not to run in to them.  Or maybe they figured they would get a bigger prize if they ruffed up the warriors, ans sent them alive.
