Silent Hill

Post by prozium »

For those of you who don't know, the (excelent) video game series "Silent Hill" is being made into a movie. Now I know what you're thinking, "Oh no another crappy game based movie that wont have anything to do with said game!". Well, think again!

From what I've seen and read so far, the french director Christophe Gans (Who directed the movie Brotherhood Of The Wolf, which was quite good) has completely nailed the style, what he have left to see is if the substance lives up to it. Personally I think Silent Hill will break the trend of bad video game movies :D Your thoughts?

I'm really looking forward to this movie.
The previews looked insane.

And hopefully it'll be as scary as the game.

Really cool picture by the way.

Yeah, Mike, but for every decent game movie there were like 15 "Alone In The Dark" or "DOOM".

Hopefully this movie will retain the overall creepiness of the original game. I remember turning the lights on after playing for about half an hour cause it was creeping me out.

One thing though, what's with all the people in the trailer. In the game I only remember the husband, the creepy ghost girl that looks like the missing daughter, & the female cop. Were there more or am I just suffering from C.R.S.  8)

There was that witch-lady Dahlia, that drugged out nurse and the doctor from the hospital.  James' dead wife was in a bunch of flashbacks too.

It was one of my favorite Playstation games.  You absolutely had to play it in the dark.  I loved the creepy radio static when something bad was about to happen but it was even better if you turned that feature off so everything was a surprise.  My favorite part was when you were in one of the basement classrooms in the school:  There was this phone that did not work and when you tried to leave it suddenly rings, loudly (I actually jumped the first time this happened).  When you answer it you hear your daughter calling you in this scared, far-away voice...

Man, I hope the movie has moments like that.

No problemo SHM :)

I agree the worries about this suffering from the classic game-to-movie syndrome are there, but I've been paying close attention and for one, PYRAMID HEAD it looking plain awesome and two, Gans really seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to the story of Silent Hill.

Man I have so many memories from playing the Silent Hill Series, the first encounter with Pyramid head in SH2, the whole hospital level from SH3 (truly terrifying) and I remember how scary the school in SH1 was too. Being the fan boy that I am my expectations for this movie will of course automatically rise but I just hope it's not in vain! :D
