Affiliates

I've been wondering who the affiliates to gangs would be. This is mentioned is Cyrus' speech, and in the deleted introduction by Cleon. Would these be family members of gang members - like brothers, Al from the chip shop?

The ones in Coney are probably wannabe Warriors but who are only as good as the Orphans. Any ideas?

Affliates would probably be insiders that provide information (informers).

This might clear things u I know every gang rank
Leader or "GodFather" is the leader

HardCore members are those like Ajax they know they tough

Older Members are usually the ones who pick or recruit Younger members

Affiliates or "Associates" THe wise guys of the group new but still respected

NewBlood Is the term used for new members

Fence Straddlers are gang members who fall in the ranks but hang around other gangs this is the most dangerous one to pick in a rank if you are in a gang that orders for respect

Wanna Be's Are those who hang around the gang an think they are in cause they know the lingo but they aren't good to have round because they can't keep their mouths shut.

Catchers are those who live near the gang but aren't members "yet" that is till they see that its there friends the people they have grown up with. Thats what gets them into it so quickly.

That's cool. Thanks for your thoughts. I'd love to see The Warriors hanging out on their turf, and see how they all get on.

Affiliates could be the b-teams. Something like a minor league team. They might have a different name, but they are closely tied together with a bigger gang. Like two gangs joining forces, working together, and remaining allies.

affiliates are any one close to gang's, friend's, relatives, people you know from the neighborhood, could be dope dealers of the gang's, fences, anyone within that realm of gang-life. not necessarily wanna-be's. "hood" tour's on request! lol

I?ve always taught that Affiliates would be new recruits who are learning how to fight and have yet to prove their loyalty to the gang. So the would be affiliated with the gang but aren?t as such members. A lot of real life gangs operate such a system.

Well very good theory, but I don't think so. IMO mafia wanted to stop gangs during those years.
I mean gangs life style was definitely incompatible with "their"... and in my personal opinion, the man luther is talking to was one of "them"... I repeat in my personal opinion!!!
Maybe some guy from NY could tell us, if he knows it, if there was a link or not! 8)

I always thought that the affiliates were something like a 'part-time' gang members,who were doing gangs some small favours,or were being tested by the gangs.They would definitely wanted to proove themselves on the streets,in order to become a 'full-time' members.

yeah part time memebers who still live in their homes, maybe they r the ones that patrol coney or the ones that guard the hangout, or maybe they are trainees, learning to fight and using the gym, i aint really sure what the word means, i like it how i was 19 when this thread came out and im 22 now

They usually would be other clubs, organizations and friends of gang members. People who supply the gang with drugs and weapons and who buy from them. It could also be people that buy their stolen stuff like chop shops fencing and other organized criminal groups. 8)

I suppose one could say that this is how soldiers get recruited in the first place. I assume that perhaps gang members allow "affiliates", (which like most of you said, can provide the gang with aditional help), in the first place. To see whats out there, and if anyone has what it takes to move on up, and see who has what it takes to be a future member, or perhaps "leader".
