DVD Update

Post by War Chief »

I have been told by an official source that there is no commentary on the DVD. Apparently you are forced to watch Walter Hill's opening comments and the 7 "deleted scenes" are in fact the comic book scenes and are part of the film (not extras). You might want to hold on to your original DVD!

Thanks, WC. Let down is now confirmed. If this is Paramount's idea of a "special edition" it should go into another business!

I'll start a new petition - The Real Special Edition DVD! Even if Walter Hill didn't do a commentary I'm sure some of the cast would have done. Were they mad not to include the deleted scenes????? That's kind of a standard DVD feature these days!!! Hopefully they'll produce a better one for the 30th Anniversary. They did for Jaws, and that film has had a few DVD releases now!

Better than a kick up the back side I guess! :D

I?m just shocked. Paramount?s been reading the forum for a while and they give us the Orphans equivalent of a special Edition (Real Low Class).

Walter Hill has said in the past that he thought the showing for the film with all the deleted films was terrible. Is this the reason why they have not been included?

Paramount should be ashamed of themselves. War Chief, I know you was told one thing by your Paramount contact but I always suspected that the two regions would be the same and that somehow the alleged commentary and 7 deleted scenes you were told about where a misrepresentation of the 1min 16sec intro and the cartoon illustrated edits.

This release is so poor, very poor especially when it is being marketed as an "ultimate director's cut". Every special edition DVD I own like 8mm, the Wicker Man, Rocky Horror, Lolita, etc, has commentary attached. Often you get additional commentary from persons like the producer or casting director or set designer. So Walter Hill DOESN'T do commentary, as War Chief has already said one of the cast or production team could have done a commentary. As for the missing deleted scenes.........grrrrrrrrrr.

Paramount view us as nothing more than their cash cows in producing this VERY poor product knowing that fans of this cult classic will purchase it just to see the documentries. This doesn't mean we should be happy with a little extra feature when we know other companies give the fans what they really want.

Maybe they can do something better for the 30th anniversary.

My fear is that Paramount have purchased the rights to the cult book "the diceman" by Luke Rhinehart. I dread to think what they will do with this

I cancelled my order with play.com and ordered it from playusa.com. Not only have I saved four quid they started the packing process about an hour later.

I'm very upset that the film isn't getting the special edition it deserves but it is worth a tenner to me to get the film in 5.1.

And you'll get it in about 2 weeks lol
Should have ordered off normal play.com its quicker and they get items about 3 days before the official release date

I know it's a little late now, but can we boycott this DVD? Or at least encourage fans who come to the site not to buy it? If we stand strong and accumulate a following who agrees maybe the studio will release a proper special edition.

I know I've decided to skip it. I had it pre-ordered through Borders Books, but I didn't put money on it, so now when they call I just won't bother to pick it up.

"Walter Hill has said in the past that he thought the showing for the film with all the deleted films was terrible. Is this the reason why they have not been included?"

Well, it is called the "Ultimate Director's Cut" so I'm assuming this is the film he wants as the director as opposed to a studio cut with all the deleted scenes back in - if Hill doesn't want them included, I resect that. And if he hates commentaries, I respect that, too. Sure, commentary would have been nice but the featurettes sound cool and I'm excited about seeing the film reworked. Of course, a separate section of Deleted Scenes would have been cool. I also assume actors and whoever get paid for the commentaries, maybe the details on that couldn't be worked out or something? Regardless, I'm very excited about this DVD...
