I think Ajax looks like a James (Which I just noticed is his actor's name) or maybe Jack.

Mercy (assuming that's not her real name) looks like a Marie or Angela

Okay, my guesses as to the names (along with explanations):

AJAX: Casey Goddard (the hockey mask-wearing vigilante + the actor who played Kano in Mortal Kombat)
CLEON: Cleon Richards (same last name as the leader of the Fantastic Four)
COCHISE: Freddie Tucker (the infamous Sweathog merged with that guy from Scrubs)
COWBOY: Jesse Hicks (named after a famous bandit and the greatest comedian ever)
FOX: Marty Stoltz (I just had to include a Back to the Future reference).
REMBRANDT: Billy Martinez (no real reason; it just feels right)
SNOW: Michael Snow (same as Rembrandt's reason)
SWAN: Terry Swan (named after the main character in Fatal Fury)
VERMIN: Nick Campbell (Nicholas Brendon + Bruce Campbell; if you can tell a difference in physical appearance between these two actors, please tell me).

Now for other characters:

ORPHANS LEADER: Ross Sullivan (maybe it's just me, but he reminded me of David Schwimmer)
PUNKS LEADER: Joey McKenzie (Joey Ramone was one of the founders of the Ramones, who helped start the punk-rock movement in music in the seventies).
FURIES LEADER (the yellow-skinned guy): Patch

Well in the script all it says is Fox's name, which is like Frances or something stupid like that.  And Mercy is short for Mercedes.  Other than that, I just figure they're real names woud be closer to the actors' names... It just works better in my head.

This is interesting, but on a more philosophical  point of view I consider the names of the movie their real names.  When you become a warrior I believe it brings out the real person in you and what you actually represent.  You see your true human form lives inside of a shell.  The whole world is an illusion.  Who you are, what your name is, and what you can actually do.  We have to brake out of our shells and become who we truly are.  In a world that keeps us domesticated, we are not who we say we are.  We feel afraid to be our true selves in a society that thinks they know what is acceptable, and what is "normal".  When you become a warrior, i think they teach you what your true skills are and reveal the person that is trapped in your fake self.  So the nicknames that they have are their true names, rather than the illusions in their former lives.
