Re: 50 to 100 miles from here
That and when Rembrandt had to look at a map to get to Coney. I've lived in NYC for only two months and can pretty much get anywhee unaided.KillerMime wrote: "Coney Island must be 50 to 100 miles from here!"
I always found it interesting when Vermin said that line. It was actually only about a 30 mile trip. I can understand him saying fifty miles, but a hundred? Probably why they never put Vermin in charge of directions

Good points Lions and Scurvy Dog...even the trailer voice says "27 miles behind enemy lines!"Scurvy Dog wrote:Well put, LIONS. I think this pretty much sums it up, especially the part about all the subway stops. On my last trip to Coney, it was about a 40-minute subway ride from the Wall Street area (lower Manhattan, for those unfamiliar with NYC - I would guess about 15 miles total trip). In the book, it turned out they were 27 miles from Coney, so that would be at least an hour-long subway ride. (In an hour, we'll be in the big C.I. pretty much clinches that). Vermin knew how long it had taken to get there, but he didn't know the distance they had covered; and because of his limited travel within the city, had a much larger, exaggerated view of its size.LIONS ON THE RED CARPET wrote: Swan: "We've never even been to the Bronx before!"
Obviously all these guys didn't realize how far they where from the Bronx and believe me that subway ride feels like 50 to 100 miles with all the stops it makes. All these cats came from poor families, I don't think they left Coney very much. Even Mercy herself expressed: "I never been anywhere".
And of course, the desperation had to have added to it.
