Yeah man,I've managed to read it all the way thru, although I still don't know what the word 'misogynistic' means!?ajax the warrior wrote: good find godfather so many big words though.

Yes Mercy obviosuly is the only female character who undergoes a tremendous transistion. And he details that transistion fairly well, but I would have also pointed out the scene in the subway with the prom couple, that scene extends from Swan's oblique apology at Union Square to Mercy.
But I don't understand why he starts off talking about Ajax, guys wanting to get laid, use of the word faggot, the park scene and then the clash with The Lizzies.
Maybe the writer is gay and loved to see Ajax get busted, you can really sense that he's happy for the outcome of Ajax's character.
Also, I personally didn't think all the Lizzies were dykes, maybe just the blond and the black girl who were dancing together.

Thanks for that,Scurvy!Since English is not my native language,i get confused with some words like that one!Scurvy Dog wrote:Misogynistic means sexist (against women), or somehow thinking women are inferior to men.Cyrus wrote:Yeah man,I've managed to read it all the way thru, although I still don't know what the word 'misogynistic' means!?ajax the warrior wrote: good find godfather so many big words though.![]()

WildBoy, when I first read the article I posted it was a good one and anyway it is so!WildBoy wrote: Yes Mercy obviosuly is the only female character who undergoes a tremendous transistion. But now, I re-read it and I think that only the autor(I don't know if he is gay or not!) is MISOGYNOUS. I mean he tells that the movie shows misogynistic characters, but he only understood that "The Warrior" is a movie showing women as slaves/inferior!!! We all know it's a GANGS MOVIE!!!
Infact I agree the lizzies are not dykes, maybe only two, and ajax sure likes women... and so on.... so I can only say that I don't know if he really watched "The Warriors", cause if he had really did it he wouldn't have written an article like that!!! 8)........ and I like Mercy!!!

Re: The search for good female characters
yeah great find. The article reveals a interesting aspect to the film, and another side of women. This was a time where feminists and womens activits movements were taking a big role in society. I suppose Walter Hill was someone to reveal that in this film.
Re: The search for good female characters
Just like the James Bond movies - the main actresses in the Bond films were usually slapped around or ditzy girls with nice healthy bodies. This was prevalent in all of the Connery movies and a little bit in the first 2 Roger Moore films.adam88 wrote: yeah great find. But in 1977, the Bond movie producers did a first and casted a "Bond" type of female spy for the movie "The Spy Who Loved Me." This new type of "Bond" girl matches Bond in skill, intelligence, sexiness and wit. A lot of movie-goers loved this type of "Bond" girl and it worked with Roger Moore and the lovely, smart Barbara Bach.
So kudos to Walter Hill, his character of Mercy undergoes this huge transformation - Mercy is at first cheap, trouble-maker going nowhere fast - and then shows that she's looking to improve her life, she's really stong-minded, can certainly handle her own and wants to rise from the ashes that poverty brings.
Mercy is so unlike that whore who gets gang-raped in the Sol Yurick book.
I agree I like Mercy as well!@
