What about a Shoutbox?

Hey guys, I was wondering (now if you dont like this idea dont gimme  that 'If you dont like the site just leave' stuff 'cause a) I'm not trying to push this onto anyone, and b) I know the site is fine the way it is, and I like it more than a lot of people, this is just a suggestion to liven things up a little) Anyway, I've been on other forums that have shoutboxes up the top so that members can just kinda talk away to each other in general. Now I realise this could lead to a decrease in posting and if you think that would happen then ignore this. But it seems to work well on other forums, so what do you guys think?

Maybe you're might be thinking of the chat room? I cant ever remember having a shoutbox before. Also, I realise that PM's are pretty much for one to one discussions but this could just be for everyone to interact generally.

NOOOOoooo!!  DONT bring back the shoutbox.  For those that dont remember it; the shoutbox used to be on the homepage in the top right corner.  The first couple of weeks were tolerable, but after that it degressed into childish banter, flaming and bad language.

It also had a habbit of reseting itself  to the top of the shoutbox when you were halfway reading it.  I wasnt sorry to see it disapear from the site.  It stunk the place up.

I agree with Ninth Delegate. Don't bring back the shoutbox. I didn't even post in there once because of all the people saying whatever they wan't in there.Bringing back the shout box will just be a waste of time.Its just going to be the same thing over again, maybe even worse :doubt:

Sounds quite fun, but I do fear it would detract from the very things that make this forum great. It enables (most of us) to take time and write methodical posts.
Having said this, the forum has gone completely quiet lately - I think someone needs to do some SHOUTING in order to kick it back into life. I come here everyday to see whats new, and lately there's been no new topics. I'm sure this is just a little phase we're going through, but thanks Cowboy Rules for getting my voice out for a stretch once again.

We did indeed have a shoutbox and it started well but then there were loads of abusive messages being posted and so on. We took a poll in the forum and voted to remove it so it is unlikely it will come back. Besides, we have a forum for messages and a chat room (very underused) for chatting!
