XML or RSS is basically a way of seeing the latest posts on the forum without coming to the forum. It works in the same way when you go to websites which scroll news headlines from places like the BBC or CNN.
If you use Firefox, click the orange square on the right of the address bar and it will add a bookmark (favorite) which will show the latest 5 posts.
