I have been a life long Brooklynite and I think this is a major improvement. Yes the old history is nice but you have to move on. There is just to much unused land that's vacant and a change is in order. As long as the Wonder Wheel, Cyclone,Nathans and the Parachute jump stays, I think the old aura will remain. It's depressing to walk around some of those street's and see vacant lot's ,bum's panhandling for money and a heavy police presence. I't could never be like the Coney Island of the 30's ,40's,and 50's but at least it will be a change for the good.

From what it say's in Today papers,The Groundbreaking will begin in 2009..
So if anyone has not yet seen it,
better Hurry,Cause soon it will be nothing more than a memory..
Did you notice the Subway Station,in the Night Shot..
The Future Stillwell Avenue.. Still looks the same to me..
And They are Building a State of The Art Movie Theatre too..
I wonder if The Warriors, will be the first film showing there? :-k
If anyone in The forum, can get a chance, pick up this book called
Coney Island Lost and Found..  by Charles Denson Great Stuff..

Say can you imagine The Conclave in The New Coney Island??
I hope that Coney is not closed than, while they do this complete renovation..
With that thought in mind,Bring on even more comment..

They have even more pictures in Today's paper,I'm trying to see if I can get them posted..
Stay Tuned Boppers..

Sounds like its going to be bring your own hard hat for the conclave.  The concept picture isnt as bad as I was expecting it to be.  Theres no tattoo'd elephant or holographic mermaid like they had in the conceptual art from a few months back.

At least we will be still able to meet at the boardwalk and ride the wonderwheel.  It wont take that long before some locals "tag" the place up.

I can imagine the conclave but not in this place, although it seems that we won't have a choice.

They might hold off construction work till the off season, being as some people in coney rely on tourism as their main source of income.  with a bit of luck, it wont change till october time.

Scurvy Dog wrote: Unless we held the conclave where the actual conclave was filmed. I know we wouldn't have the spirit of Coney Island, but we'd have it where Cyrus spoke those immortal words.

Lots of places to eat around there, since it is on the Upper West Side. Riverside Park is huge, and we'd also get to see many of the same locations that the Furies scenes were filmed in - well, the chase/fight scenes, anyway. There's a 30 block difference between where the subway scene and the park scene were filmed.

Coney would be better, if available.... but if not, there's Riverside Park.

I am so loving your Idea, alot Scurvy Dog,
I even mentioned a few years ago, that we should follow
The Trail, and when we get to The Station where they
meet The Furies,a group of us,should split up,
and try to head to Union Square.. And than try to head for Coney..
Overall,It would be an adventure..
And with a group of people,it becomes almost like The Warriors..

Besides,at Coney Island, you have Nathans there,
Image
and that alone is worth the trip to Coney..
I can smell the Frankfurters and Fries..

I remember when you brought that up Robert.  I think it was and still is a cool idea, splitting up and everything.

Yeah Coney would be better, if not .... I'd say Conclave park could be good, or ok Riverside park... or everywhere in NYC would be a good place/location...
... ok but you know what, last july in NY I made almost all the Warriors trail ALONE :(...
... so when I read a phrase like yours, T7, "And with a group of people,it becomes almost like The Warriors..."

I've no more any rationality, cause it'll be simply AWESOME, COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish 2009 is... tomorrow........ I CANNOT REALLY WAIT!!!!!!
I think we'll really be a bunch of COOL DUDES around New York City!!!
Don't laugh guys, it's what I really feel about... I already smell the Frankfurters and Fries!!!! 8)

Thank you for the comment Lions, and The Swan..
And the beauty of all this,is the fact, that if you are not from New York
and you happened to wander into the Subway, you would really have to work the Subway map
And with a group of friends it's even more fun..
And Let me add to this even more..
If we have another group chase us,around the subway, instead of fighting,
We can throw water balloons at each other, run into the subway car,and split!!!
I can imagine it now..
Image
[glow=red,2,300]THERE HE IS...THAT'S HIM..THAT'S THE WARRIOR!!![/glow]
Just a crazy thought, after all,it would be summer time..
And a Bunch of Furies swing their bats at waterballons
Image
And to the Lucky winners who can find the Prom Couple on The Subway
They can win some kind of prize
Image
[glow=red,2,300]Hey??..Wait just a sec?[/glow]
And,just like THE MOVIE..we just have to avoid The COPS...
Image

Just an idea..
