This may help or it may not but me and both my brothers all thought it was one of the jaws films, but i've watched them 100's of times since and it doesn't happen. maybe they cut it out as it was a box of Kellogs.

The scene that Turnbull is describing sounds familiar, but I can't think of the name of the film! 
Never mind, I'm not that much into comics anyway.

Before I go into extreme research mode, are you certain that there are not two scenes in Arachnophobia, involving cereal and spiders, and the other scene (not the one of the dead spider) is the one you seek?

I really hope someone will find an answer, it would be good if the question is asked on some forum dealing with movies in general.

is it at all possible you're conflating the memory of the spider in cereal from Arachnaphobia, with the famous scene in Creepshow, in which a bunch of cockroaches run out of a cereal box?
