I find a lot of people also don't know that the original story is by Stephen King

Not only is it true that Rob Reiner directed Misery, but it is also based on a Stephen King story!

wow, didnt know that, what a talented fella rob reiner is...

miserys a hell of a film ... penguins always face south or summin? haha

is everything based on a stephen king story?! lol apparantly stand by me (the body) was quite autobiographical.

incidentally i caught the end of a programme on the guy who wrote the screenplay for misery, seems he was considered something of a genius... cant remember what else he did but they made a good case for him... think he mustve passed away recently.

He first came into prominence not as a director, but an actor, on the highly influential 70s series All in the Family

And much like the Warriors; the movie is a lot better than the book (although technically, The body was one quarter of a book).  Richard Dreyfuss narration gives the film that extra edge.  Stephen King spoiled the ending by returning to castle rock years later.  Sometimes less is more.

In the Stephen King book Misery, if i remember correctly she actually severed his feet instead of breaking his ankles, the book was great but Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes was truly scary. I work with this women who always shouts at me, i call her Annie Wilkes

I read the book, but the only part of the movie I was interested in seeing was the ending.

Plus, that James Caan is a fox. *grrrowl!*
