) So how I came to be here - I was flicking channels one night when I caught sight of some Woodstock-looking gathering, seventies kids in crazy get-ups, but no bands and no music. Then some slick-looking dude in his bathrobe yelled 'can you count, suckaaaaas?' and I was hooked. I stood there for 20 minutes watching before I remembered to sit down again. I remember even that first time, I felt sick when charismatic Cyrus got shot down in his prime, right at the height of his speech - ouch.
Since then, bought the DVD, watched it way too many times then is good for my social life, and looking for a (reasonably priced) copy of the game. So much to love about this movie and for some reason it never gets old to watch.
So good to see that there's this unreal website and big community here - it seems a little quiet lately but I'm hoping some regulars are willing to chat with a newbie
I've already bored literally all of my friends to death talking about this movie, and I'm guessing 0% of the locals are going to understand my Baseball Furies Halloween costume this year (whatever, I'm doing it anyway) so I'm keen for a chat anytime.As an initial offering, here's my personal Top Ajax Moments to Give the Feels:
- When he was the only one in the crowd who wasn't buying what Cyrus was peddling (with the exception of Luther, who possibly couldn't hear Cyrus's speech over the voices in his head).
- When he paused to flip off a busload of armed screaming skinheads, not to impress anyone but because he felt it was the appropriate thing to do.
- When he leapt the turnstile like the lovechild of a gazelle and a teenage Romanian gymnast.
- When he almost sang about what a 'bunch of chicken sh*ts!' the AC's were on the train.
- 'I'll give it to ya baby.'
Rewind...
'I'll give it to ya baby.'
- Every single moment of the Baseball Furies chase/fight scene, especially when he encouraged Cowboy to keep running and just accepted it when he couldn't continue, before handing out numerous epic thumpings and throwing one of the best lines of all time in there for good measure.
- Not much to love about his final scene, but he still manages one more good moment when he's beaten, bleeding, handcuffed to a bench but still curses out the cop who's standing over him with a baton. Dude was fearless.
