Even though these two books focus on 1950s gangs there are a lot of things that parallel The Warriors showing that some things do not change. They are both worthy of a read.
Rumble, A Novel by Harlan Elison (Also published as Web Of The City) Elison was a writer who in 1957 actually joined a gang in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn to get first hand insight for this novel. Elison also wrote many scripts for television including Star Trek.
Vampires-Dragons-And Egyptian Kings Youth Gangs In Postwar New York by Eric C. Schneider. Combines sources for chapters such as Race, Defending Territory, Gang Culture, Leaving The Gangs, Gang Intervention,& The Use Of Drugs In Gangs.
