One thing that bugged me about the movie...

Why didn't they use the Book's gang name for the hero gang? The Coney Island Dominators sounded so much cooler. Naming the name of the gang after the movie title is kinda weird. :doubt: Why is that? :?:

Well, IMHO "The Warriors" sounds much more like a group of dude's who have heart,
and are willing to fight their way back to their turf. A "Warrior" is a person who has
alot of courage and backbone and fortitude. A "Dominator" sounds like a jerk who
just wants to own other people. My guess is that the people behind this movie
wanted the viewing audience to sympethize with The Warriors, and care if they made
it back to Coney or not. As for naming the film after the gang that it is based on...
WHY NOT?

i think this is one of those cases where the source material was just a stepping stone to something else. the actual concept of the movie really developed through collaboration of the people involved a lot of it coming from the costume/art design as you can imagine, you have to give respect to Hill for letting it develop naturally like that and as a result we have such a rich and interesting movie that still harks to the original book and the anabasis.

Eh, the Coney Island Dominators sounds a bit... cheesy, lol. I mean, "The Warriors" is arguably unoriginal, but it's waaaaaay better than the book gang name. JMO.

definitely have to agree that the warrior is a better name for them. After seeing the movie the other name is rediculous

In my experience, movie makers usually like to make things more appealing to the masses, including taking something longer and making it shorter...easier for the mind to digest.  "The Coney Island Dominators" is a lot longer to say, type, remember, etc., than "The Warriors".

On a different note, I have never read the book.  I have loved the movie for YEARS, but never considered reading the book.  Is it that much different/better/informative than the movie?

I think that Coney Island Dominators might have sounded a bit too old school even by 1979

Well guys, don't forget The Movie is Based on the Novel by Sol Yurick and somehow on The Anabasi by Senofonte, an Ancient Greek Novel/Tragedy. Infact Walter Hill's Novel is Based on that Greek Tragedy.
So, Walter Hill named the Gang from Sol Yurick's Novel "Warriors", cause those Soldiers from the Anabasi were Warriors. Real Warriors.
If you know what I mean.

i first saw a poster on a friends older brothers wall and then saw the rental movie around 1980...

i read the book around 10 years later...

Yea, well Walter Hill couldn't add every single detail from the book to the movie, plus they probably didn't have enough money in there budget to add another gang in the movie, that's why Cleon dies so early in the movie because they could only pay him for 15 minutes.
