Some thoughts on Cowboy

Hey all (apologies straight up if something like this has been done before, i searched but couldn't find anything like this at all.)

It just came to my attention by reading around some forums in the past and from hearing opinions from the mouth of others that cowboy isn't too popular with a lot of warriors fans, and that he was always consider sort of a 5th wheel to the gang in the movie,

I just want to take this time to share my views on why i think he isn't baggage for the rest of the crew and why he is in fact worthy of being part of the 9 chosen delegates:

Handy with the right set of tools - as you would have noticed in the bathroom fight, he was swinging away taking down punk after punk and even had swan's back when he was getting beaten down, he was probably always intended to be the handy man with things like this.

Voice of reason - While the only example i can think of in the movie of cowboy being the voice of reason, was during the cemetery when he was quick to diffuse the Swan/Ajax face-off. However in the PS2 game cowboy is referred to as the voice of reason in the game's manual, bringing me to my next point; while it never happened, we can assume and it would be perfectly logical that cowboy fulfilled this role (getting the warriors out of any potential unneeded vendetta with other gangs/getting cops off their back.) In addition as per the game's story it was cowboy who spoke to the Saracens after him and Cochise did them a favor to get the warriors on the Riff's network.

Light relief - Being in a gang would be tough, but with member's like Cowboy they could forget about all the nonsense that would happen when it's all said and done and just chill out and have a good laugh as a bunch of friends.

Soldier in the middle - Let's face it, while what made the warriors a solid gang was their ability to bring their own unique toughness and skill to the crew, adding extra numbers couldn't hurt, so why the hell not?

and finally

A loyal founding lieutenant
- Bringing knowledge and wisdom to the gang, while this was not a solid fact stated in the film, according to the video game's back story Cowboy was one of the first, and a good friend of Swan.

personally i believe these points would suffice, would love to hear any other thoughts if anyone has anything else to add which i might of missed (Heh, I'm probably gaining some good favor with the cowboy fans by doing this) but all that aside, cowboy isn't in fact my No: 1 but i do believe he deserved to be there.

Very Good post here DeLarge

I think the only thing here is you cant try and pursuade people, by mixing facts from the movie and the game just cos like... the game was made alot later... but you have some very good points.. The most important being he probably wouldnt of been chosen just cos he worr a cool hat 24/7 :D

besides, how many of us could have done better, well those of us alive in the 70s atleast  :p

Cowboy was just a layback kinda cat, but when it came down to it, he would rumble.  I mean this cat got hit with a bat and he still got up, only to face the Punks.  Yet he came out alive from that as well.

Oh yeah, at least he made his work in the Subway Men Restroom and above all he's always a Warrior. I just think every Warrior was necessary that damn night!!!
Moreover, he and his hat cheered up The Warriors (in the train, going to the Conclave) before the Meeting!!!   8)

Nah don't get me wrong man, i wasn't trying to persuade anyone's reservations about cowboy, i was trying to establish what it was about cowboy which i personally thought made him worthy of the divine nine.

it's interesting though how you mentioned mixing facts with the movie and the game isn't really justified, i would have to disagree however because while there's a significant generation gap, it's still canon so the magic continues to live on, just through another form of media.

and yeah, forgot about the trademark stetson hat he wears, i guess he just wouldn't be 'cowboy' without it :p

Another thing that amazes me about Cowboy is that he was willing to go back for Ajax, but Snow stopped him.  I mean here all these cops and yet he wanted to get in there and drag him out!

No doubt, I mean he had them well attached.  I couldn't imagine someone going at it with New York cops, specially in the 70's, but apparently he would of.

to finish the thread off, cowboy was a good soldier to choose to take the the conlave, he has skills, he has "friends" and will be loyal and help them anytime.

Yeah guys, we can say that LOYALTY is maybe his best skill. Someone says he is not very tough but, like many of you guys, I just think it doesn't really matter!!! He is a "man for the team"... he is just a trusted friend!!! He is a WARRIOR!!! 8)

exactly hes a warrior, a gang of trusted loyal soldiers, cleon chose him maybe because he sees the loyalty in him, and he must be quite tough takin on the punks he dropped a few of them,

loyalty is a big thing if your part of a gang or organisation

I agree with you, Swan. Cleon choise Cowboy for Warriors beacuse he is loyalty and good soldier. If Cowboy wants, he can wreck everything and also don't forget, gangs. He is a good fighter, but I remember in the movie that scene when he fights with Furies, he got wrecked.

Short Summary: Cowboy is anyway a GOOD WARRIOR... maybe not the Best Fighter... because of this when he fights with the Furies he got wrecked... and about "just remember they had bats ....." by stevo: yeah they had bats, but Swan, Ajax ans Snow disarmed them... ;)
