Diamond trim controversey. Help me get this right.

Okay guys, just got my Patches from Warriorcleon and they rock, which I'm sending to my leather guy to use as the basis for the patch (obviously mine will have the black border behind it) but I'm still a little confused about the diamond pattern in that in some lights it looks off-white, like this picture here.  I really am not sure if the diamond's are supposed to be the same color as the vest.  Any pointers so I can get this right is more then welcome.

Theres some close up shots of the trim/pipeing were the prom couple get on the train.  It does look die-cut like the A1 vests.  I think the colour underneath looks a paler version of the actual vest colour.  Its possible that the vests were treated with some sort of coating after the trim was added, thus missing out the pleather in the diamond cut?

My A1 vest does look a little off with it all being one shade.  When i get paid at the end of the month, I think i'll get some supplies and try mixing the marroon colour with a light grey and fill in the diamond with acrylic paint.  If it dont look good, i can always remove it.  Post up pictures when the job is done.

I think it's the exact same....

and here is a picture of an actual screen used vest, Cochise. Appears the same color to me...

I still have trouble believing that vest is a screen used vest... I mean, it just looks way to clean.  It's a very accurate vest, in almost everyway, but the color and the fact that it is so clean makes me wonder.

SHM seemed to think it was real. The seller on Ebay had some pretty intimidating feedback.
If it is than it proves that the color is the same and not lighter.

It's the same I think. In this movie still it seems pretty clear.

hmm.. maybe it's a shade or two lighter then the vest, because in almost every other scene the diamonds appear to be lighter then the vest.  A1's matches 100%, which is very noticeable unlike the movie.  We shoudl try and track down the maker of these vests..LOL!

Okay, looking at that screen used vest some more, I am now pretty damn convinced that is the real deal.  The way the pockets go out to a point, wrather then cut off like other vests and the cut of it.. etc.. appears to be the real thing and I do now believe the diamond trim was a slightly lighter shade then the rest of the vest.  My leather guy was saying that it is very easy to make the diamond trim a shade lighter then the rest of the vest, which appears to be what's going on here.

I just lightly dyed my diamonds, with a dilluted version of the dye I used for the vest, and it looks amazingly accurate now.  I'll post new pics soon.  8)

Yikes.  That was one of the hardest things we had to do...That type of material doesn't actually exist, and you'll most likely have to get it custom made.  It's one thing when you're ordering trim for 100's of vests, but you'll probably have to pay quite a bit (comparatively) to get enough for just one vest. 

Interesting thing, if you look at some of the movie vests, they have what looks like the points of other diamonds coming in on the edge of the trim on the left and right side.  It's almost as if the original costume makers were taking a larger strip of material, like a belt or something, that had that pattern printed on it, and cut it into strips, clipping off parts of other diamonds.

But yeah, to answer your question, I don't believe it is commercially available.

what you are looking for is called leather piping or welting.
you can check ebay they sell 100 yard rolls in 1/2 inch.
you can also ask your local shoemaker ,also welting is very
big in automobile upholstry. whole sale you should be able to purchase
leather piping around 6.00 dollars a yard.your local shoemaker
should be able to apply the diamond cut pattern.or you can have the diamonds
sewn on or painted.leather craftshops may also carry it. goodluck
