My kids and I have always wanted to go to Coney Island and the other places like the park where the conclave was held, riding the subway to Stillwell Ave, ect. and see what it was like and I was wandering if any of you had been able to do so and what it was like. I'd love to take the tour with Cochise! That trip would be worth its weight in gold!

I went when I traveled over the pond to visit my step brother in NYC. It was awsome, a really great experience that i'm so happy to be able to say i've done. I have a photo of my and my step brother infront of the lit up Wonder Wheel all framed and hung on my living room wall  8)

Sad to say that I chatted with someone on this site a while back and found out that much of Coney Island has been demolished although the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone still stand and are available for the public to ride, but the boardwalk is no longer there. I wish I could have gotten there before this happened I think a year or so ago. Does anyone know for sure when this happened?

Oh, I'm going to NYC on september 16th, was wondering, what is the easiest way to get to Coney island? And approx how long is the transport time? My guess would be by taxi or subway, though the ideal would be to go by the subway just to get the feeling of it ;P

I think you should make plans to ride the subway and get off at Stillwell Ave. like in the movie.

Sounds like a great idea! :] I'll definentley go to Stillwell Ave ;D  Then work my way to the amusement park and to the beach :]

About the only thing that remains from the movie at Stilwell Av. station is the interlocking tower (seen behind Mercy and Swan after they get off that morning. The bldg with the semaphores in front).  Otherwise, a ton of $$$$$ was put into re-doing the station a few yrs ago.

Much of Coney is still standing, though that will be changing starting this month. I was there on August 30th for my birthday. The Boardwalk does still exist, The Cyclone, Wonder Wheel and Astroland Park are still up, but most other amusements have been taken down to make way for the new "renovations" *cough*parkinglots*cough*

The Freak Show still stands and they plan on staying in the area even after everything has changed.

Depending on where you are coming from the easiest way to get to Coney is the Subway. Just buy an all day Metrocard and find the Orange line southbound..  I think it's D F Q N line, orange on the subway maps. You have no choice but to get off at Stillwell Ave.. it's a terminal and that's the last stop on the line. When you walk out of the station you'll be on Surf Ave. infront of the NY State Aquarium. If you turn your head to the right...  you can't miss the Cyclone. I'd like to think you could figure it out from there..

Word of caution..  watch the broken glass and other.. gross things on the beach.    as much as I love Coney, it is not the most well maintained area in NY. Just be careful and watch where you step.

Thanks alot canyoucount and ravyn!! I'll definently take this as a important note with me ;D  I'm so exited!! I was in NY like 5 months ago, but I wasnt at coney island. On sunday it's my birthday, and dad wanted to give me a trip to NY as a gift and this time I'll visit coney! And I'll watch out for the broken glass and other nasty stuff on the beach :]

ASTROLAND PARK (where the CYCLONE and WONDER WHEEL are housed) closed for GOOD (or so they say) this week, so I do not know how close you will be able to get to those. Just an FYI.
