Lucky for us the WONDER WHEEL & CYCLONE are city landmarks and will still be standing no matter what they put on the boardwalk. What they want is actualy an updated amusement area, sort of like the Jersey Shore or Ocean City Maryland.

Great finds Swan and Godfather. What a cash cow Coney was in the 40s :D. Some of those rides look fun but dangerous by todays standards. Especially the one where everybody flys off the center spiral  To be honest though Coney (looked) like a dump that needed to be torn down :( I hate to say,  It didnt look that good in 1979 either  :doubt: Sure alot of history and memories will be lost. Real estate in NY is too valuable to not to develop! Thats just the way it is. :|

Hopefully there will be a Coney Museum to visit?  I also would hope that somebody would save some of the signage and neon from Coney. At least the wonder wheel and cyclone will survive :D

Coney had a counter part on the West coast called The Playland Funhouse. I remember visting it as a small child and being scared by the laughing mechanical lady who greeted everyone as they walked in.  It was torn down in 1972. I remember my dad taking me to the beach in 72 and watching from across the steet seawall as the wrecking balls tore it down :( Here is a pic of The Playland Funhouse  Image

Well there is the Santa Monica pier's Pacific Park, which is kinda like a new west coast Astroland.  Although unlike the big CI, Santa Monica is a upscale neighborhood.
