American Psycho by brett easton ellis.
i've probably read this book over 10 times and recommended it 100 timesover. at first, you're like WTF, this is kind of lame. but after a slow start, you're like OMG! this guy is freakin crazy all the way til the end of the book. its definitely not for the squimish, the writer does a great job of describing some of the horrific scenes but its really hard to put down once you get past the first 100 pages or so. its probably my favorite book of all time.  Â
they made it into a movie a few years back which did the book absolutely no justice...actually it was nothing like the book whatsoever, so forget the movie all together and go read the book. it'll change your life and not in a good way.Â
I have this book Hater, I like the sewer rat incident and the hair spray can!
Pure filth Hater, I likes I likes. Patrick Bateman's character in the movie reminds me of a cross between Ace Ventura and Rob Lowe's character in Wayne's World.
It's a tie between American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and Fear and Lothing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson.
American Gods is a very strange satirical tale about the way an englishman perceives American life after moving here, though he tells the story with physical embodiments. It's a strong political statement, but also a fantastic mythological piece. The story follows a man known only as "Shadow" from the time he is released from prison, and the odd things he encounters along his journey with a mysterious man. Very entertaining... wish I could say more but it would ruin the whole thing.
I really like The Phantom Blooper by Gustav Hasford. It's kinda the "sequel" to Full Metal Jacket ad Hasford is a master storyteller. I also enjoy Slaugtherhouse 5. And pretty much any other Vonnegut book. They're a little conceited and maybe too self-conscious, but I still like them.
If graphic novels count I'm gonna say "In the begining" by Garth Ennis, it's about a man named Frank Castle who was a veitnam vet but his family were murdered in a mafia crossfire in central park, now he dons a spray painted bullet proof vest with a skull on it with the name The Punisher and i immediatly fell in love with the character (not in that way) i got into it because of a game of the punisher that was released a long time ago and ever since i liked the series but this one is easily the best like in one bit a mafia enforcer cuts off an agents balls and puts them in a starbucks coffee cup then in another equally awesome bit our hero Frank fights the same mafia goon and picks him up all the while the goon is stabbing Frank with a chunk of glass shouting "lemme go" and then Frank throws the man through a window onto a fence then jumps down and the goon has a reflex and gets up and in shock frank blows his face off leaving his gory eye socket hanging out, it is one of my all time favourite books, pick it up if you can.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter. S. Thompson
Awesome attention to detail in this book... basically about a journalist and his attorney who take a lot of drugs and go through a huge adventure in las vegas... evidently... hence the name of the book... it even has really graphic illustrations... one of them has scarred me for life
Slawter by Darren shan because you just can't put it down, i was reading it for about 4 hours straight one day. its very good, its the 3rd in the series
