How is it???

Discuss the novel by Sol Yurick upon which the movie is based.

Thanks... wait!

Are kudos better than Karma?!?!

Where's my Shoutbox?!?!

waaaaa!!!!!

Karma and Shoutbox... wow. Two things that are long gone from this site.

Karma was a nightmare. People would complain that they didn't have enough, or if they lost any. They were "favor points", really. Mods could give or take up to 10 points at a time; regular members could only affect one point at a time (per person whose karma they were adjusting). If someone really breached the rules or posted horribly, their karma would drop. It was kind of like "liking" things on facebook, except with points. That was ditched because people complained too much.

The shoutbox was kind of cool, but caused other problems (such as not loading). I think that was dumped not so much due to its content (which improved posts made elsewhere in the forum, as most of the "junk" went there), but because it didn't function correctly.

Anyway, I'm glad karma is gone. The shoutbox would be nice if for no other reason than a place for the devoid-of-content posts.

without revealing anything, was it disappointing in that you didn't like what happened, or were you less than enthralled with the actual way it was written?

I guess the saying 'the book is always better than the movie' can't be used in 'The Warriors' case!  :D

That's a flawed point of view unless you read the book first and thought the movie loosely based on it was better.

Why would it matter as to the ordering (book first), or am i misreading?

It matters because most people tend to prefer whichever they first experienced, and are comparing whichever was second to that standard. The same goes for remakes of movies and songs.

I'd say that, generally, in the case of books vs movies, order is not relevant (notice i did qualify this with "generally" (in italics for heightened affect, no less))

For a movie to have the incredible detail possible in a book, they'd need to be 6+ hours!

You're probably right there. Very few movies could pull that off.

On a related note, I prefer the Bourne movies to the novels. Yes, I saw the movies first, then I tried to read the first of the novels (expecting them to be better) - but I couldn't finish more than 1/3 of it. I couldn't stand Ludlum's writing style.

I hated the ending of this book.  I mean, c'mon; what type of gang leader goes home and sucks his thumb?

I thought the Body (stand by me) was inferior to the film.  I thought the changed ending of the film improved the story and made it more poignant.

I'm one of the few that preferes the Watchmen movie to the graphic novel.  The giant space squid thing just didn't work for me.

See I wished they did STAND BY ME like STEPHEN KING'S THE BODY. I thought the whole story was better. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie. I just thought the short story was better.

I didn't like how he went back to castle rock as an adult to see what happened to his friends and enemies.  It seemed a little tacked on like a quick buck sequel.

Yes, you are right.. I like that they showed after they returned tho. How the older kids did get their revenge as they said they would. That would have been cool if they showed that.

It's a great read, though one of the only books I think that isn't quite as good as the movie
you gonna pay for that?
