11 out of 10. best 3-D brawler ever. (beat it)

Post by saner »

wow I played since the day it came out, played it around 2 pm, all the way to 6 am.

the story they tacked on before the events in the movie is PERFECT! They really put the characters and world to excellent use. a really great story. and the combat and brawls are fantastic.

the whole story mode is truly awesome. and the rewards make this game worth 50 bucks. I really like that DoubleDragon/Bad Dudes style minigame! that minigame plays like a classic brawler, but its still 3-D and uses the game's deep combat system. man oh man the very beginning of the game will make Double Dragon fans fall off their chair, laughing and praising the nostalgia the intro presents!! =)
also, player 1 is Swan and player 2 is Ajax (which is perfect since they resemble Billy and Jimmy Lee the most). I really love the shocking and funny twist at the end of the arcade minigame. you'll love it!

as for RUmble Mode, I didnt try it until I beat the game, and it flat out beats any mode in other fighting games. the sheer type of modes, and being able to customize and name your own gang using the models from existing gangs, civilians and extras you unlocked!

the majority of the modes can be played 1P, Co-op and versus.

I really like the mode that has 9 vs. 9 elimination brawls. those are glorious!!!

and yes! Ajax can finally kick that ***** undercover cop woman's ass!!! (I did that fight in 1 on 1 mode).

yay! Mercy can fight too! although when the a.i. uses her she doesnt seem to fight at all (which is better reason to make her the leader and control her first, that way your gang is not handicapped by a soldier that doesnt fight when the cpu uses them.)

oh yes and your partner/gang a.i. is great!!!! they can kick as much ass as you do!! it feels good having buddy members you dont have to babysit 100%.

so you see with your gang having good aggressive a.i. and the enemies having good a.i., this leads to VERY BRUTAL and VERY EXCITING FIGHTS!!!

I swear Rumble Mode is 10000000 times more fun than any other fighting game. whether it's DOA, Soul Calibur, or a beat'em up brawler game. it even grinds GTA games to dust.

I think I unlocked all the gangs. Yeah. but Im missing the Saracens. not sure how I missed unlocking them. well there's still some bonus objectives I skipped during the last half of the story. cause I was eager to finish it.

I played the game on easy and it felt like Normal. it wasnt a cakewalk and some chase parts I had to do over.
There was one stealth part I hated but its easy if you are patient and know where to hide. (the business guy in Chinatown who was going from shop to shop.)

overall, I really loved the whole Warriors vs. Destroyers story. it was really legendary. plus being a brawler fan, the red vests vs. blue vests ordeal always gives me that nostaglic Double Dragon rivarly going between Billy and Jimmy. but Cleon and Virgil's past is more profound. the final night of Warriors vs. Destroyers was really intense (as well as the battle with Virgil)

you know what's funny? I think one time when using Swan and Cowboy was in the team, Cowboy got knocked out, and Swan picked up and put on his hat!!! LOL! The same works with any hat I think. it's great. =) oh yeah other funny stuff is CATCHING ON FIRE!!! Lol!! one time I ordered the gang to Mayhem and smach everything. one member smashed something and set himself on fire and he's running around and screaming. LOL!!! doh! I also love running and jumping through glass windows. I'm not a fan of tagging, but I got better at that. Busting into stores is fun too. as well as mugging, car radios, and ordering someone to go after that person who's going to call the cops! lol! it was crazy. a girl went to the pay phone to call the cops, I ordered Snow to take her out, and man he freaking slaughtered her.
oh yeah climbing/leaping over fences, jumping accross rooftops, throwing people through glass is fun too.

This game is definitely gonna be remembered as the classic that revived the beat'em up brawler genre of games.

also, while the graphics are not state of the art, I thought they were beautiful, flawlessly animated and pleasant to the eyes.

IF this game sucked I wouldnt bother even reviewing it. The game as a whole is a must buy for those who love brawls that dont involve usable guns or vehicles.

fighting hand to hand is the way true warriors fight.
