aha! we are (not surprisingly based on our similar references) quite close in age (I was a spry 16 year-old hooligan in '79)

Yeah, seven years isn't that much of a difference after 30 or 35, is it?

In '79 I was -11 and my brother was -7. In fact, my parents hadn't even met each other yet, hehehe.

I wonder if calling it Flash, had some sort of connection to New York rappers, Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel (both originally credited for the anti drugs song "White Lines", although later emerged that only Mel took part on the track)?

It is funny to me how flash gives you energy.  My guess as to why they called it flash and not coke was to make it a bit cleaner so people (kids) might not identify with the drug.

Because then they'd be too mellow to fight. Unless they did that in the hideout, between missions. They wouldn't call it that, but show them passing what appeared to be a hand-rolled cigarette around.

Well, Cleon did call LC a junkie, so that would make sense.

He's a lucky guy. After the massive expansion of police power to deal with the war on drugs in the 1990s, even passing off fake drugs as real would get him arrested for dealing in most of the United States. I suppose they have to get every conviction they can in order to justify beating down high schoolers' doors and shooting their dogs/grandmothers over a few joints.

Exactly. It would be counter-intuitive to get baked before a gang fight. Slow punches, lack of response time and reflexes, and generel stupidity. Would be terrible. Still, Nick Diaz apparently has a pow-wow before every fight, and he's always angry. Inside joke for MMA fans
