Gotta agree with you there mate, al great bands.. But i didn't know The Jam was a punk band 

Listen to the titles and lyrics of their songs... then you will see what I mean my friend.

Also, really broke out around the late 70's/early 80's which was, as we all know, the middle of the original punk movement.
