Here's my 3:
1) Thief: Deadly shadows -in the "Robbing the cradle" mission i had two breaks just to relax.
This mission area is an abandon mental institue which later became an orphanage who also had to be closed. You basicly creep you way through ghosts, whispering in the dark and one hell of an atmosphere.
2) F.E.A.R: a highly trained soldier (you) is sent to invstigate abnormal activity in an office building. Once in awhile we encounter a child which reminds me of Samatra from "the ring", when she's around i know its time to be afraid. (walking down a dark corridor check to see whats going on behind and see her staring at you)
3) Diablo 2: act 3- walking around old temples which littered with corpses and pools of blood sure aint my favorite place to be, oh and the fanatic zealots who charge from the darkness with disturbing howls doesnt make it easier.

hmm...I haven't played alot of scary ones. And I haven't passed the entire thing but I would have to say Resident Evil 4. It just creeped me out when I saw that woman hung.

dino crisis for ps one, you're on an island trying to find and rescue a scientist but the island is infested with dinosaurs, it may sound lame but it is so scary especially when you're just walking down a hallway and then a raptor leaps through a window, or you walk into a room a see a guard with his guts all over the floor, it was a great game even though its ps one.

The original Silent Hill for playstation & the original Alone In The Dark for pc were both pretty scary. As far as THE scariest game I've ever played, believe it or not it was a text only adventure from Infocom for the comodore 64 computer called The Lurking Horror. It was so well written it didn't even need graphics to scare the crap out of you.

Diablo 2- Very gloomy. Gloomy stuff scares me.
Twisted Metal black- Not so much the game play was scary, but the twisted stories some of the characters had were scary and demented.

Silent Hill 2, like 5 minutes in the game and I was already scared, the fog, the foot steps and so on.

I would have to say Codemned for the 360. Some of the stuff in that physically nearly made me fall out of my chair. And Resident evil 2 was pretty scary.

Yeah man i have been a fan of all the Silent hill's since the beginning but in my opinion the Second one was the scariest. The manikens, the town, the freaky hooker, the hell hospita. I mean hospital's scare me anyway but hell one's AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you get the point but also there are multiple endings in all of them which is plain cool but don't play them if you scare easily like i said before AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

silent hill 2, rented it yesterday and was literatly shaking.

Not ONE person mentioned Manhunt? Wow! I thought it was quite scary getting chased at a dump by some Skinheads!

I found Manhunt to be more disturbing than scary, but thats just my opinion

I don't play many games but yeah man Manhunt is pretty heavy , the sounds and the creepy headset effect are mental . freaky.....but yeah full on disturbing rather than scary.

re 1 for ps1 was scary for me also, i coudnt sleep for a month. I was barely 10 yrs old though

1. Crimson Butterfly (i was crying because i was with one of my friends playing it and the power went out! we were so scared and my brother was scaring us so bad !)

2. Manhunt. i was sceming trying to hide and stuff.
